Phillips getting out coached again. Blew another 18 point lead. Third time that has happened this year. Call a god dam timeout!!!! When teams are on a big run. We better start looking at coaches this offseason because this a sad pattern where we blow a big lead with bad shot selection and poor defense every game. Doesn't anyone on this lazy team box out. This team needs to get their heads out of the butts.
Lectures and CME today. Came here looking for an objective recap. Just had to laugh. Same old lament found on every fan board. Lazy players, out coached coaches, time to buy out the contract, falls back on the coach, not gonna win another game.... So much for finding out or discussing what actually .transpired
My take: excellent first half of defense. NIU worked ball to get inside but good hands and good positioned caused a bunch of turnovers. On both ends of the court Cats took what was available. 60% on 3 pointers and over 50% overall. Pretty good shot selection. Only took 4 foul shots by Cats. KK and Tony C. Out with 2 fouls a good deal. Block and Taylor gave good minutes. 16 point lead.
2nd half was strange. NIU played well at both ends for 12 minutes. Took the ball at us and found the open man. Ohio stalled on all counts. 10 points until after 8:00 minutes to go. After time out Cats did the same as NIU and won the battle. Lots of drive and dish or drives to force a foul. Cats took their big guy out of game for most part. During bad stretch Cats' offense was way out of sorts. Several times shot clock around 6 with no movement towards basket. Head scratching!
IMHO officiating was "interesting". Gave them some rope then would call something that had been allowed. Saw a lot of frustrated faces on both sides. A couple of "it's a foul if the shot doesn't go in" calls that benefitted both teams.
28 minutes of very good basketball. KK took ball to hole a few time which could help give him some room to get a comfortable shot as season progresses. Taylor isn't afraid of other bigs- will let Tony C play less careful at times if it continues. Simmons' turnovers are mostly a minor distraction when he can drive and dish as teammates keep moving.
The good is getting better. The bad isn't getting better yet. Hopefully that is an experience thing and our lapses are not complete breakdowns.
OT- Mediterranean on 33 in Lancaster was a nice different food stop.
Go Cats!
