As something to pass the time over the next week or so.....

If our Bobcats aren't going to be the team to win the MAC tourney, who do you see as the best bet to cut down the nets in Cleveland? Akron has played well all year but I just have a feeling that they are going to be upset at the Q.

I am going to say Ball State will claim a MAC leading 8th conference tournament title.

Speaking of the MAC tournament...........does anyone know the story behind why it was played at the Crisler Center its first three years? Seems kind of odd to have something like that played on campus at a non member school? (I have also found it kind of interesting that U of Ms arena has a name similar to an auto manufacturer and until I saw it in writing once just assumed that was how it was spelled and named for).

If I were betting money on it, I'd choose Zippy over everyone. They have the depth to withstand foul trouble, and the guard play to get it done. They also have the history of having been there when it comes to crunch time. My opinion of this could change pending tomorrow night's results.

Do you guys realize that there have been only two wins from road teams in the MAC in the past two weeks and Ball State has both of them? If not Ohio, I think it's Akron, then Balls.

But you want a daaaark horse candidate? Toledo worries me. Boothe + Williams and a host of other nice complementary players.

Gonna be tuff for OHIO to put enough good offensive games in a row to win it...especially since I have not seen such lousy defense in years. We have nobody that can stay between their man and the hoop on a drive and I mean nobody!

Many may not have liked the UB style but those guys were athletic and had a passion for the games. I agree there was a lot of pushing, holding and mauling but that is up to the officials to control. Then, players need to learn and react to the way the game is called.

I heard a rumor Kent may get Pollard back for the tournament. If so they would have a pretty decent chance. But If I had to put money on it, I'd put it on Akron.

I don't think the defense is as "lousy" as you make it out to be. I agree it isn't great, and could be better. They've really improved the 3pt defense. They commit fewer fouls than they did earlier in the year. Also consider that the rules in the game have changed how defense is played a little bit.

I agree for this team to get to the MAC Championship game, they're gonna have to shoot it pretty well, and score quite a bit, but that's okay with me. That's pretty much who they are most games.

Agreed. Buffalo also is a team that will highlight any deficiencies you have in this area because they attack the rim relentlessly. We have backslid a little bit on defense the last couple of games after having a few much better games.

Ohio has proved to be a bit streaky this season. When it's good....it's really good....but when it's bad, they don't seem to have the backbone to tough it out.

Let me see Ohio's first game in Cleveland. A resounding win and I'll feel great about their chances.

A game like UB where they have wild swings of up 8 to down 10 and I'll be hesitant to think they can put together 3 games in 3 nights.

My favorite - Akron. Battle-tested and solid guards with good interior play

My darkhorse - Kent. They seem to be getting better as season progresses...dealing with the injuries....if Pollard comes back that could only be a bonus

Super sleepers - Ball & UB. UB is tough to play against...frustrating and if they hit shots, they're dangerous. Ball has quietly put together a nice season

Ball St. is doing it with the best player on their roster, Teague, taking the year off and will be a redshirt frosh next year.

Imagine UB's lineup with Moss and Rakeem Johnson playing in the middle.

I'm guessing Toledo, but really who knows at this point. I wouldn't give us too much of a chance because of our youth and inconsistent play( see BG game), but hardly anyone else is really very consistent lately either. Probably better to wait a week and see results this week and seeding, might be easier to handicap at that point.

oooh ooooohh oooooohhhhh Mr Kotter!!!!

I know Iknow...

Crisler was a former football coach and AD at UM. THe arena was (and still is to those with any hoops accumen) known as "the house that Cazzie built" paying homage to former Illinois HS great and UM star Cazzie Russell. The athletic facilites there are fascinating to study. The former arena is now where Hockey plays. The Big House and Crisler both went through major renovations in the last decade.

Wasn't Crisler's first name 'Fritz'--seem to remember old broadcasts stating that.

For the record, my father played basketball at UM...many, manny moons ago..though I don't know if that arena was there when he played.

I'm betting that the MAC tourney is really, really competitive.

of course, the correct choice is OHIO, OHIO AND OHIO.

Ball State is so overrated. At the end of non conference play their SOS was 349 out of 351 D1 teams.

Here's a break down of Ball State's 10-6 conference record with teams ranked by current seed-

0-1 Akron
0-2 Ohio
0-1 Buffalo
0-1 Kent St
1-0 BGSU
2-0 Miami

Ball St is much improved over last year but they are not going to win 3 straight in Cleveland.

Ball State is the best team in the West at 7-1 in divison games but I doubt they are any other West team makes it to the MACC.

The two road wins in the last two weeks were Ball St at Miami on the 16th and CMU over Toledo this past Saturday.

Ball St. might have the MAC's best non-conference win v. Valpo.

If it is Akron versus the field, I am taking the field. But if it is pick your best guess to win it, I'm taking Akron.

Kent or Toledo would shock me, I don't see much from them. Ohio, Buffalo, CMU & Ball State are all possible winners in my book.

Ohio's been the most consistent during Feb, and probably has the best shot.

If not Ohio, my guess would be Akron. Dambrot always seems to have his team ready, no matter the situation. Still p*ssed that we couldn't find an answer when Abreu was kicked out of school and they put Marshall on DJ in the CG a few years ago.

My dark horse (i.e., one from the bottom 6 seeds) is Fiami. They played us a tough 2nd half at the Convo when they had four people suspended. And they've picked up some momentum with four wins down the stretch (yes, they were mostly at home, but they hadn't done anything home or away up to then). They'd have to win five away from home in a week, but stranger things have happened.

I think its very wide open. This could one of those years where a team gets hot and just runs the table. Who has the elite guards? Akron, CMU, Toledo. Bobcats have the firepower to just blow the doors off anybody. They just lose focus for long periods of time in games. Bobcats have very balanced scoring. Simmons, Campbell and Kaminski are fully capable of putting up a big nite,
