I believe we need to get more athletic or we're going to have a re-occurrence of the same problems that hindered us at both ends of the floor this season. Although our returning players figure to improve, so will the returning players on other MAC teams. Taking one team for example, and certainly not looking to rub salt into a fresh wound, we'll have to deal with Buffalo's crew of highly-skilled athletic players again. Their bench was long on contributing players; our bench was short. We've got a lot of work to do just to catch up to their bench's proficiency from this season. Don't know if that is possible to correct before next season, though. In reality, this conference has gotten a lot better lately. It wasn't but a few years ago where there were the teams at the top and the teams at the bottom who couldn't compete. Those days are over, it appears. Don't look now, but some of the teams that hadn't been winning have a bunch of young talented players who fared well this season and will get better. Everyone in the conference now has some athletic players and some size. We saw this season that anyone could beat anyone else on any given day. This isn't intended to be a gloom and doom statement. But without some readjusting/retooling, next season's team could have two first-team all-MAC players yet still suffer the same MAC tournament fate.

I'm really excited about where this conference is heading as a whole. As for us specifically, I think the key is keeping a head coach for the long haul. I think we have that with Coach Phillips. The best thing I have seen him bring to the table thus far is the TEAM aspect. There seems to be a camaraderie with this year's team that I haven't seen since I started following the Bobcats back in the TOS era. I read an article the other day where Tony was talking about how Gavin takes charges from him to help him learn how to avoid them in games. This is a really close-knit team. I have confidence that the mechanics will come, be it athleticism, defense, avoiding fouls, etc. I honestly think the sky is the limit for this team.

Good point about the conference landscape. It's good to see the level of the play up like this and it's only going to get better. This is as good as the MAC has been in awhile.
