OSU is playing well right now. I think their athleticism could shred us. As long as Treg gets another game!

OSU got smoked again tonight and that likely puts them out of the NCAA and into the NIT. If Akron loses to Buffalo, Akron will go to the NIT. But if Akron wins, there's a chance a MAC school gets in. But if not the NIT, Ohio is a lock for the CIT or CBI and I could see them making a serious title run in either of those two, even though both of those tournaments are rather crappy. But I'd love to see an OU vs OSU matchup. Probably a stretch, but still.

The only prayer for the NIT is an Akron victory and the NIT wants an in state dance partner for the Buckeyes. If I were betting I would say CIT but who knows.

Last time State played in the Convo was a NIT game.

I'd just really like to see Ohio play a named team in the postseason and not some run of the mill teams that will be in the CIT of CBI. The home non conference schedule was crap but Ohio played good games vs Florida State and Tulsa on a neutral court.

I was there. I seem to recall Ohio St had Brad Sellers and beat us by like 1 then went on to win the whole NIT.

I was there too. If I remember right, we lost by 3. I think we had the lead for a lot of the game but let it get away late.

Also, if I remember right, I think we were technically the AWAY team because of some odd reasoning.

I agree with Gallia Cat, only chance we have is if Akron goes dancing and the NIT wants the regional matchup. They may just find a better matchup tho, without us.

And should such a matchup materialize, that's the only way the game is at the Convo.

A couple years ago Kentucky was supposed to host an NIT game but couldn't because the NCAAs were being played there. They wound up playing at Robert Morris, but I think UK was considered the "home" team. It could be that the O$U-Ohio NIT game conflicted with the HS state b-ball tourney.

We would've had a better shot at the NIT if we had made it to the MACCG. There are something like 10-12 non-"power" conf teams that already qualify for the NIT because they won their regular season conf but lost their tourney. The NIT might want more big-name schools.

We can forget about the NIT if Akron doesn't find their game vs Buff. They are down 9 mide 2nd half. If Akron loses, they will take that NIT bid.

The sterile corporate university arena in Columbus is booked by the state high school playoffs. I don't know if Tuesday is available for a game there.

That said, it ain't happening.

I remember several years ago Ohio State played back in old St John Arena because of a conflict. I believe it was an NIT game vs Cal. I loved that place and still like it way better than the current one. Ohio beat Ohio State in St John Arena during the Preseason NIT. Bowling Green also beat OSU there that year. I'd love to see OU at OSU in SJA.

It ain't happening because Akron is about to lose to Buff. So Akron will take the NIT automatic bid. No way we get in too.

Danny Nee said a few days before the NIT invite that he thought he could swing it because he knew several guys on the selection committee. He reminded me he was from NYC. It came out exactly as he told me it would. Saul's not from the Bronx, unless I missed something. ;-)

Too many 1 seeds in other tournaments already lost. I think the NIT was already too full for us, regardless of what happened to Akron tonight.

I doubt we get into the NIT, but if we do it would be as a 7-8 seed and OSU is likely to be a 4-5 seed so we probably wouldn't draw them.

More likely it would be someone like Temple or Valparaiso.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Akron sent to Columbus

Akron's loss sets up a convenient instate matchup in the NIT. Akron and O$U are about even according to ESPN's BPI (O$U is 64; Akron is 72).

Ohio will likely get a CBI berth, or maybe the new Vegas tourney. I'm not sure who gets first crack at teams among those tourneys. The NIT field is already loaded with as many as 14 non-"power" regular season champs that lost their tourneys (Akron, N. Fla, Wintrop, Valpo, UAB, Monmouth (NCAA bubble), San Diego St, Wichita St (bubble?), Wagner, Belmont, Bucknell, Tex Southern, NMSU, St. Mary's (bubble?)).

I think they've used St. John Arena in the past for NIT games when there was a scheudling issue
