Thought this deserved it's own thread...

Jaaron picked up 8 assists last night moving him to 268 on the season (7.8 per game). This breaks DJ Cooper's MAC record of 263 assists in a season. Congrats to Jaaron.

That record, in and of itself, is a tremendous achievement. What's even more telling is watching this young Bobcat develop into a tremendous all around player. For example, look at how many clutch free throws he has made this season. He is worth the price of admission.

He's exceeded my expectations for a sophomore season.

BIGTIME PG. Seems like a tremendous team presence as well.

Outstanding player. What's exciting is that he has two more seasons with Ohio to work on his overall game and get even better.

Absolutely deserves it's own thread! The fact that it's one less game is something that was especially notable for me. It's interesting to think about a few things on this topic. First, for me, I thought it would be a long, long time before we saw this record broken. Second, is it me, or does Jaaron's accumulation of assists kind of sneak up on you? I can't decide why, but it just seems that way a little.

I think Jason Arkley tweeted something about Jaaron's assist being a bit quieter than DJ's...less flashy. Not the behind the back, between the legs, over the head, through the woods type passes...

I agree with that. The flash isn't there as much, but there are moments of flashiness. I don't know what it is, but I don't realize he's having a big assist game as often as I did DJ. Maybe it's gettin' older and remembering the good ol' days better!

I haven't seen that many games. But from what I've seen and the minutes Jaaron plays, he gives us Very High Value. Very consistent. Many rising to the moments at game end. Not many mistakes.

We'd be a lot lesser without him.

Two more years this way...YES INDEED.

At the conclusion of the non-con season, I posted on here that two areas Ohio players would have to show improvement for the Cats do to well in conference play included: 1) Simmons cutting down his high rate of turnovers; and 2) KK becoming more consistent with his 3-point shooting.

While I haven't looked up the numbers, I would say the "eye test" would say that Simmons did cut down his turnovers. I would also say the "eye test" says his perimeter shot, while not picture perfect, also improved.

KK's 3-pt. shooting, on the other hand, . . .

He definitely had a DJesque assist last night in the first half to Tony. He faked left then took two dribbles right and fired a long bounce pass through the trees to Tony under the basket. After last season Jaaron is just what the doctor ordered.

Give Jaaron his credit. All players have different styles. This guy is good and I don't care how he does it.

And as I said in the game thread - no CBI - no MAC record for Jaaron. And he did this with ones less game played than DJ played in the 2010/11 season.....

File this under things I would've said you're crazy if you told me this would happen at the beginning of the season. Not that I didn't expect big things, but eclipsing DJ's assist prowess in his first season? Wow. And to top it off, he has been a significantly better shooter than DJ ever was.

HOWEVER - DJ did the other things...protecting the ball, forcing turnovers, grabbing rebounds, lockdown defense...that in my mind was what made him an all-time great.

+1. The whole comment. I don't want this year to end for three more games, but I already look forward to seeing this bunch play next year, and it's all because of Jaaron and Tony, to see how much higher they can elevate their games.
