No reason to think that if we are focused we can't win this whole darn thing.

Why can't we take things one game at a time? Go 1-0 vs Albany.

I see no reason why the team goal should not be to win this thing.

The goal of each game - should be to win each game.

Winner of our game would face the winner of UNC Greensboro vs Houston Baptist. Both those teams are under .500. Why would the CBI match up two of the better teams in this thing in Ohio and Albany, while matching up two sub .500 teams? Guess we just go out and try to beat Albany.

Looks like Ohio and Albany are pretty evenly matched in the computer models.

My initial thought is geography but it seems like if that was an important factor, there could have been some closer match-ups. The Western teams all are playing each other, but the Eastern and Midwestern teams almost seem randomly placed against the others. Morehead State and Ohio would have been a pretty short trip.

with this type of tournament the home teams are the ones willing to put up the $$$ to host so geography and records become secondary factors.

[/QUOTE]My GUESS (and that's all this is) is this was a conscious decision by the coaches of the respective teams when they accepted the tourney invite. Meaning - we said, hey we want at least one guaranteed tough game to challenge our guys in the tournament environment. Might as well. Nothing to lose when in these lower tournaments.

Similarly UNCG and Houston Baptist (no idea HOW they even got into this) probably said - hey, give us a lower equal opponent to get some more tourney experience without getting killed.

Both cases the thinking is on helping/building the respective teams for next year and NOT about results in this tournament. As it should be.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we had no say in who the caliber of opponent is. We do have a say in wether we host or not.

This should be a huge game for Big Tone, none of their bigs get many minutes. the kid from Australia is 6-8 and looks to be who will guard him! I hope we will be pumped and ready to go!

You could be right and I could be off my rocker. Like I said it's speculation as I have no inside information.

All I'm saying is, with these lower tier tournaments where teams are picking and choosing whether to play on at all and/or where to accept invites (as opposed to NCAA/NIT), I think it would be naive to think once the committees call and extended offers that the teams would then not turn around and request (or at least inquire) - probably not a specific opponent - but rather a type of opponent. They're already agreeing to host or travel when deciding about accepting these bids, so they'd have an idea of what half the field they might get to play from the beginning. Very similar to picking and choosing non-con opponents IMO, except here they get to try and find the best post-season experience to prep the team for next year. That's the only point to these tournaments anyway.

Albany was the #2 seed in the AEC Tournament and lost in the first round to Hartford (10-23). Yeah, I guess you could say that's why they ended up here.

From the Albany Board:

"Wilkin reporting that Brown said that Singletary and Ennema may not play on Wednesday. That will not be good against a good Ohio U team."

Singletary looks to be their leading scorer and assist man.

YOu mean we're not gonna get an Ennema? The Ozone will be disappointed

I hope the Ozone leaves that one alone if he plays. I saw Albany play earlier this year and was thinking the same thing if they ever played here. Best to let that one go.

This game is important as it will demonstrate whether our boys have 1) Gotten over the loss to Buffalo, 2) Gotten over the possibility of an NIT bid, and 3) Are able to improve their mental toughness and put the past behind them and come out with a win.

Looking over their roster and stats it appears that they seem to play a real team game as there is not 1 or 2 great players with stand out stats.
If, as someone stated earlier, 2 players could be out, 1 is their leading scorer. This will certainly have an affect.

I would hope that Ohio will web cast this game, for not only our fans who can't make it to the game but for the Albany fans as well. I would doubt Albany will have many fans in attendance.

Good thing we are playing them in a game that does not involve tackling.

That other dude has a rather unfortunate last name. Chances are most of the O-Zoners are too young to have ever had the, um, pleasure, of experiencing one of those.

Looking over some of their information, they play 8 guys 10 or more minutes per game, they lost to Kentucky by 13, they beat Yale by 34, every loss was on the road or neutral court.
