I'm wondering if the ability to watch all the tournament games on TV is a detriment to attendance. For years I traveled to Cleveland when OU played. This year I attended every home game but two (out of town on business). This year I went to my granddaughters school play at East Elementary Thursday night, recorded the game and watched it when we got home. Last night we cooked a nice dinner at home and the game came on afterwards. I've truly enjoyed watching this team this year (how could you not after last year's fiasco) but it's very easy to just flip the switch and enjoy the Bobcats from home. 7 hours of driving is a long trip. I wonder how many others feel the same way.
How about the social aspect, Alan? It's still great fun to connect with fans in Cleveland. For example, I got to meet D.A. last night. And I was all primed to buy you that beer I've owed you for 10 years.

Great thread: Country is unhappy, Situation gives us more incomprehensible (I love 'non-negligible'!) and Alan had a nice family meal at home!

OK this is one of the more head scratching threads I have read in a while. Let me get this straight, thousands of Bobcat fans probably drove hours to get to the game, cheered as best they could (under the circumstances) and they are being called out because they didn't cheer loud enough? The problem was on the hardwood, not in the stands.

I wish it were like the mid 1980s and people went to games more often, but there are more entertainment options than there were in the mid 1980s. In addition, as we discussed ad nauseam before, fewer people are into sports for sports sake, they are probably into it for the socialization factor. Also, we don't have the metropolitan area like a Dayton who has a pretty rabid fan base. I understand frustration, believe me I was frustrated for most of the game and the three hour drive home. However, let's not direct it at the most supportive fan base in the MAC!

My post was no more difficult to follow than a cup is difficult to reach in a cabinet above the kitchen sink.

If you can't grasp it at this age, then you're legally a midget (a mental midget Monroe).

We played and we lost. How anyone cheered or didn't cheer is irrelevant.
So by that logic just stay home and watch on TV

I guess you never had "home court" advantage experience affect your performance - too bad - you don't know what you missed............
You don't even need to watch it on TV. Just read about it in the paper the next morning.

That'll teach me to drive 22 hours round trip for the privilege of rooting on the Cats!

Well apparently I am one of those douchebag fans, since I was sitting in the middle of those douchebag donors that get the BS treatment for seating. I guess my "standing for defense" went unnoticed, as well as that of others seated around me including Rod, who was up a ton during the game with many others around him/me. Now that I know that I am being judged for my performance in the stands I'll have to step my game up. Thank god I didn't wear my Bubba Walther jersey or otherwise I would have gotten doubly berated!

I happened to be sitting in the middle of the blue hairs, but in my vicinity were also other less seasoned alumni, plus parents of the team directly across the aisle, many Athletic Department staff and plenty more folks that, had the outcome been more in question would have been on their feet for 40 minutes. But if you were too blind to see that the outcome was pretty much in Beefs favor late in the first, then pass me that packed blunt you're smokin'. No amount of "Oh you, of yeah" would have turned the tides on Friday night.

But in all seriousness, a few in my general vicinity were 70+ and you could not depend on them to "stand for defense", but for chrissake, where do you want those people to be seated? So far from the court that they can't see what is going on, or worse yet put them in a suite where they would be relegated to watching on TV?

No offense, but if an OHIO graduate that has been an active donor until their dying days wants to go to a game, there is one place I would love for them to sit: wherever they damn well please, because they have earned it!

Now get off my lawn!

You can't count on those of us under 70 to stand for defense either. That stupid "tradition" needs to go. Other than than, I agree with the rest of your post. Figured a guy of your means would fly in. :)

That gave me a laugh Monroe. In retrospect, it would have been more appropriate to replace "embarrassed" with "disappointed" in my initial post. My opinion remains the same more or less that OUr fans were pretty darn quiet when the boys needed their energy. What's perplexing (also in retrospect) is that two weeks earlier at home in The Convo versus UB, our fans really, really responded in a big game. Water under the bridge at this point.

Country--thanks for taking it in good humor.

D.A. is correct; this game was in Beef's control pretty much from about 4-5 minutes in (when they took the lead).

D.A., of course should be berated for not wearing his Bubba jersey. What were you thinking, dude?

And, if you'd been wearing Bubba, your cheering would not only have been of better quality, you'd have been shooting 3balls from your seat.

And, that could have helped us pull this one out.
