Stony Brook has hired Ohio State's Jeff Boals, sources told @CBSSports.

Good facilities, fan support, location, and upward momentum. That's a nice gig.

It is. Steve Pikiel has built a nice program. They do lose Warney but return quite a bit.

In the past, I got the impression from folks on this board that they felt he would land "higher" when he left OSU - some wanted him here, others thought the Marquette job, etc. While a nice gig (Stony), sounds like he may have overstayed at OSU and his star may have faded a bit. Thoughts?

I think people on this board were a little biased and therefore thought he would land a major gig to begin with. The job he got is a good one, though, and one he could use to get to a bigger one.

I think Schaus was looking for a guy with D1 head coaching experience when he hired Saul. I'm not sure that he seriously considered Jeff. Now, with the experience Jeff is getting at Stonybrook, he'll be a hot pick in a few years someplace.

Agreed. Their renovated arena is a nice looking place now. I watched their (I think) conference tourney on ESPN something, from that arena and it was a great looking facility. They've been toward the top of the NEC for several years as well. Definitely seems to be a good move for Jeff for the head coaching jump.
