I just hope we learn to value each possession more. Had some really bad turnovers the last 4-5 minutes (the out of bounds pass for a lay up and at least two guards falling down with the ball and losing it) that cost us big time. Then, there is defense that needs to get a whole lot better. Bottom line, I know it is the trend in b-ball nowadays but you can't just outscore everyone every night. some nights, you need to take care of the ball and play hard nosed defense.

All in all it was a good year and things seem to be on the right track! Let's work hard in the off season and keep getting better.

I echo everyone else's sentiments about wanting to schedule more Morehead. They brought a nice crowd and if it was an early season Saturday OOC game, they'd bring even more fans to the Convo.

The reverse of that is that playing in their barn would afford a nice doable road trip, and the Cave Run Lake area near their campus is worthy of a weekend visit.

Not-so-fun stat, Tony was 1/13 from 3 in the CBI in 3 games.

Yeah I noticed that. The Buffalo game in MAC tourney wasn't great offensively either (2-7 from 3). Don't know if he was tired. Hurt. Faded. Disinterested - or worse that teams figured him out...but his last 4 games were not so MAC POY esque.

Last 4 games:

FG: 22-53 41.5%
3P: 3-20 15.0% (Lowered his season pct from 41.2% to 36.8%)
FT: 5-7 71.4% (How does a center who is POY take 7 FT total in 4 GAMES?)

PPG: 13.0
RPG: 12.5 (he did keep this up)
APG: 0.5

Better question is how does he only get 53 shots. And when 40% of those shots are 3's, he's not going to get fouled many times.

I love how the word "disinterested" gets tossed around so much just because a guy doesn't play well.

agreed... evenmoreso is the word used by similar guys who are "embarrassed" by the performance of those 19 year olds.

Don't know if it was fatigue (he worked his tail off this year) or injury but Tony didn't seem to be moving as well the last couple of weeks. He seemed to be working extremely hard against Morehead but left a number of shots short which screams legs to me.

I thought we battled Morehead but were really hurt by circumstance. Jordan getting hurt so quickly really is tough to overcome plus Tony and Gavin picking up 2 quick fouls in the first really hampered us. Jordan being able to go in the second half really helped our offensive flow even though he didn't score much himself. But we fought back and I actually thought we might pull it out until Corban Collins reared his ugly head and hit two daggers, and they were ice-cold daggers. They also hit 11-12 on free throws in the last 1:15. They beat us, we didn't lose it. Glad we got these three extra games, nothing to hang our heads over.

Jeff, this is the kind of thing I meant by bad play down the stretch.

Stop being critical of the team and coaching. Gotta give SaulBall at least nine more years before you can go that way. #ikidbecauseiloveandit'soffseason

Is there a YouTube video of the post game presser? I haven't been able to find one.

Morehead St lost Gm 3 of the CBI Finals last night at Nevada 85-82 in OT. Caught the end of the game, great back and forth down the stretch, lots of clutch shots made by both teams. The stat of the game was Free Throws- Morehead St was 6-13, Nevada was 39-45. Hard to beat a team that is +33 at the charity stripe.

Ball St(CIT) and Ohio(CBI) were the only MAC Men's teams to win in post season tournaments. Ball St lost to the eventual CIT Champion and Ohio lost to the CBI runner up.

That was a pretty competitive series. I am sure that will pay off in the future for both ball club in the experience dept.

I had to laugh when I saw the first round CBI banners hanging in the Nevada gym. Now they have a championship banner to go with the first round qualifiers .

Can't imagine what guys sitting over there with Giacomo would say about hanging the championship banner....and the idea of hanging a first round banner like Nevada has in their gym in the COnvo may bring out the worst in our fans who think much short of an NCAA "birth" is Drek. We did not do that for CBI Or CIT so we must be " better" than them.

I've said it before, like Tracy Morgan's character on 30 Rock going after the EGOT(Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) I would be all for Ohio going after the bball equivalent by winning the championship of all of the post season tournaments.

Let's win a CBI or CIT tournament championship, hang a banner, and then scratch it off the list. I'd rather us discuss the merits of turning down a 3 letter tournament bid because we've already been there and done that instead of pretending we're too good for it to even try.

Side note- Last year Nevada's avg attendance was 5,497, attendance for CBI championship game was 9,043. Arena capacity is 11,300. Solid support from their fan base.

I watched the CBI final Friday night. Had to hand it to Morehead; they were down by 14 in the first half and could've easily packed it in. Instead, they fought back and took the lead at one point before sending it into OT.

Also have to hand it to the Nevada people. They had an good-sized, enthusiastic, energetic, rowdy crowd. Even thought I heard some people chanting for Morehead. Overall, this may be the best game in college basketball this weekend (including Monday).

I watched it as well and it was very entertaining. It really helped that the crowd was into it in all three games. I came away impressed by Nevada's crowd because they were very energetic in the semis against Eastern Washington as well. I couldn't care less what the trophy says or whether a banner is hung I just love seeing good competitive basketball which is what this was.

I agree, it was very entertaining - I watched the second half of both games at Nevada. I really think this is a good tournament to be a part of, and I hope it plays dividends for OUr team in the future for the development of our guys. I also hope it might result in a series with Morehead in the future.

With regard to the banner, I say you hang one for a win like this if you're Nevada, or if you're a MAC/OVC school. Your team won a bunch of games in a row and deserves that recognition. I'm of the opinion that the more banners hanging from the rafters denoting the program's achievement, the better. For example, there should be a banner hung for Tony's All-American Award this year, MAC POY, etc. Banners show success, and success usually means winning. Winning sells tickets and improves support from alumni, students, and the community. My two cents.

If you click on my link above you will see that they hung a banner for "CBI First Round" 2 years. By that logic we wsould have hung a CBI and a CIT banner for our first round appearances.

Can't wait for the "CBI Final Four" banner to be hung in the Convo.

Agree, particularly the part about the MAC POY. I know Maryland uses them as a big recruiting tool. Steve Francis played one season at Maryland. It was a good one but hardly a great one. His number is hanging in the rafters at Comcast and it was explained to me that it is completely for recruiting purposes. The "We are better than that" crowd probably wouldn't like it but it does serve a purpose.
