The problem was with the shot clock, not the game clock, so they were right in changing the shot clock. The fault was in not catching it sooner, and probably lies with the clock operator at the table.
I understand that the shot clock was the one at fault. I just think that the best remedy is to keep the shot clock as it was when they blew the whistle because Maryland was playing the possession according to how much time was left on the shot clock not the game clock. By doing this then Maryland gets to play it like they intended and the game clock ends up in the exact same spot as it would have. By just changing the shot clock Maryland has four fewer seconds to run their possession that they thought they had.
