WOW, this ranking really came out of left field.
WOW and to have AJB on the 2nd team
Don't get me wrong I am all in with the ranking and selections.
I was always a big fan of AJB and disappointed with his injury last year.
Let's take 1 game at a time and not get out over our ski's by reading these headlines.

Well we finished tied for 2nd in the MAC last year (and a 7 game win streak) and brought most everyone back while adding at least 1 high end transfer and a top of the conference freshmen class. So it didn't really come out of nowhere.

Somehow it is more comforting to be underestimated and surprise everyone than be the favorite with nowhere to go but down. To me, this is a different kind of coaching challenge. It appears that we have a great staff so we’ll see how they handle this challenge.

It's OK for us fans to get "out over our skis." The problem is when the players do!

We will need some leadership to emerge from the player's side of things after losing Jaylin and Miles.

Clayton and JP (are we allowed to call him that?) are two that stick out to me to sort of "captain" the ship this year.

There's a lot to like about this squad, no doubt.

As a program and fanbase, we are long past the days of wanting to fly under the radar. We want to be pre-season 1-2-3 every year. It feels like we have the pieces and depth to do something special this year. I'm intrigued as always by the bigs.

Has Clayton developed a game inside 10 feet?

Boals has talked glowingly about Searls in the pre-season. He's the new guy I'm most interested in seeing how he comes along.

Will Ayden be a factor? I hope so, because I feel like we need the depth down low.

I am also interested in seeing what you have listed but there are two others that I am curious to see:
1. Does Nichol make any kind of impact?
2. Between Elliott and Burris, who plays this year? Burris is getting some major run in highlight videos I have noticed, while Elliott not so much. Is that on purpose because he's doing well or because they want to hide Elliott as a secret weapon? I think they can both play but need to get stronger.

I would like to see Ayden Evans get some good run this year just so we're not completely raw in the post next year. I don't consider Hadaway and Nicol bigs and the other options as of now are Kuany and Mosley who are not yet part of college basketball. Assuming all the cornerstone players stay for next year, I just don't see the urgency to get Burris or Elliott experience this year.

How on earth is AJB preseason second team. He was just OK when he wasn't hurt. I guess I need to increase my expectations, eh? Happy to do so....

I trust Boals can help the lads handle the expectations. Looking forward to a fun season.

I'm not sure how this came out of left field. Ohio brings back the most high level contributors in the league and brought in a pair of talented transfers and a couple freshmen with nice upside.

They've been the highest MAC team in the preseason metrics. This was expected to be honest. Now, they have to show that they deserve the preseason hype.

I don't think being #1 is out of left field. I think most of us expected it as the most likely outcome of this poll.

What I didn't expect was it to be unanimous. Yes, I know Akron got a vote but it had to have come from Boals. A lot of years, coaches haven't ranked their own team in MAC coach polls. It doesn't say that this year but it had to have been the case. We got 11 first place votes. 11×11 is 121. Either you don't vote for yourself and get 11 for first and 1 for last, or points for 12 team polls are given 11 points for first and zero for last and the coach that didn't vote us first picked us last.... It also means everyone voted Buffalo last.

Remember also that a lot of all-MAC selections from last year left either due to graduation or transfer. There are only a couple incumbents (I believe Clayton is one).

The Blue Ribbon preview mentioned that some MAC coaches believe that AJB has the most NBA potential in the conference.

When I close my eyes, I think he can be as good if not better than Hill last season. He NEEDS to be our Hill.

I had myself convinced we would win the MAC this year months ago, but I wasn't expecting MAC coaches to agree with me!

This team reminds me of 2021
