Welcome! Here's a list of helpful topics you should probably ignore in order to not lose your sanity:
1. Jim Christian's tenure at Ohio.
2. Saul Phillips' recruiting style.
3. BUTM
4. BIG MANZ
5. Ohio's scheduling philosophy, or lack thereof, in either football or basketball.
6. Whether or not (insert player)'s jersey should be retired.
7. Ohio athletics marketing budget.
8. Parking enforcement.
9. Popcorn and pretzels and/or any general discussion on Ohio Athletics concessions.
10. Hand dryers (this topic is up for further review as I've been told they have improved in recent years).
Probably sage advice, but at the risk of developing insanity I'll take a stab at these (at least that way I'll be on the record and won't have to wade into any future debates!)
1.) I'd give JC an incomplete grade, though Treg Setty's post a few years back, together with my in-game observances and the rumblings of impending mutinies make me glad his tenure didn't last long.
2.) "Diamonds in the rough" seemed to be something Saul often chased, and with Preston he struck gold, but overall I sensed he was trying to be a bit too clever rather than just wading into the recruiting battles and really selling the university. Also, with his personality and charm (especially in this era), it's shocking to me that he basically had no social media presence to reel people in.
3.) ??? IDK what this means LOL
4.) Loved watching Ndour, Campbell, BVP, and Dwight--all different types of 4s/5s. That being said, not a fan of playing 2 bigs unless at least one is a stretch, and I'd 100% rather have elite guards than elite posts.
5.) I'm basically a men's basketball fan (occasionally will watch football or women's basketball), and in general I'm a bit underwhelmed by the schedules. I'm sure it's much harder than it looks from our end, but do we really have to play a non-D1 team in a "real" game every year? And can we please line up Dad's Weekend with a game that isn't an exhibition? Obviously I'd love to play more P5 games / less low majors, but those are my two biggest pet peeves. (I actually think this year's schedule is pretty solid.)
6.) Would love to see Cooper's jersey in the rafters eventually
7.) Don't know too much about the subject, but I do think game days could be promoted better on campus. As a student it was hard to tell there was a game that night unless you happened to walk by the Convo and see those little signs.
8.) Never pleasant, but what really irks me is the security funneling everyone to one entrance on game days. Really frustrating game-day experience, but I'll leave it at that.
9.) I've never been a concession guy at sporting events, so don't have much to say here
10.) I do believe they replaced the crappy old ones a couple years before I moved, which was long overdue!
