I was hoping to see The Wiz back. I can't think of any other OHIO bigs who took some time to grow into their body then flourished at the end of their time in Athens
Hopefully he kills it overseas and makes bank.
NOTHING points to that happening. He was a total defensive liability while on the floor and was only slightly better on offense. It just didn't work out here that's all. We all wish him the best in the future.
Total Liability? That would mean when he was on the court that the opponent would score 100% of the time. It would mean that Boals should have never sat a player to bring in Wiz because giving the player a blow would never be beneficial to the team results while resting the player and the TOTAL liability was giving up point after point and putting the opponent into the bonus.
I recall a BIG block or two late in the season. I also recall an opponent getting a T after Wiz apparently pissed him off. So TOTAL is a little strong.
Straw man argument. Nice try. A big block or two late in the season? 25+ games and that's all you got? Drew a technical foul on an opponent? Is that all the expectation you have for our 6'11" big man?
It's a losing argument OCF1. Even when you wish The Whiz well in raking in the cash overseas, people still think you are bashing the kid. There are some folks here who refuse to believe The Whiz was a swing and a miss. It’s not The Whiz's fault. It’s the coaching staffs at Louisville and Ohio who failed with their evaluations and development of The Whiz. The Whiz played in 65 games as an Ohio Bobcat. I can maybe think of 3 games over these 65 where I said to myself....ya know...The Whiz is getting better...he's really improved. One thing I never said over the last two years is that I can't wait for The Whiz to have a third year in Athens. Those who love The Whiz need to ask themselves this....if we had a Myles Foster type player last year, do we beat Akron in the MAC semifinals? I think we do. And I think 99.9% on this board would say so.
Bottom line....this is where I am with The Whiz and his legacy:
It's ok to say The Whiz was a swing and a miss.
It's ok to say this staff whiffed when it came to recruiting and developing The Whiz over 24 months and 65 games.
It's ok to say we thank you The Whiz for your contributions as a Bobcat. Once a Bobcat...always a Bobcat. You played hard and gave it your all.
It's ok to say...best of luck overseas...and make it rain with your big man skills in the paint.
