I 'pologize to cc-cat for posting something that caused him to agree with me.

Taylor--or some other rebounder--will have to be on the floor in addition to Campbell for about 30 minutes a game. Otherwise, there will definitely be games in which we'll get punished for lack of rebounding.

In the age of 3Ball, rebounding is less important than it was before. But it still matters.

I disagree - only in the sense that I'm interpreting this as you saying one player has to fill the other big role as a rebounder. I think it can be done as a team, and I also think that the guards/wings need to be more involved in hitting the glass.

I suppose. But at some point other teams are going to have two big guys pounding the boards. And if they have two bigs plus guards and wings who also go to the glass....

Villanova just won the National Title playing mostly 3 guards, occasionally 4. I think the need to have huge guys on the floor at all times is a little overrated. The need to team rebound is probably more important in my opinion. Get 1 more board per game from KK, Dartis, Block than they did last year, and that could go a long way. It could mean 3-4 more ppg if half were offensive boards.

With this year's group, I'm more interested to see some depth develop, and see 9-10 guys avg 10-12 quality minutes a game. That should allow for scenarios to play big, or to play small, in order to match up.

No team sends all five guys to the offensive glass.

Hard to balance the floor. Leak out a little easier

Not often send all five...But it's nice to have a variety of guys who can rebound even if the bulk of the board work comes from a couple of guy.

Ohio was 7th in the rebounding margin in the MAC. So it's not like they were terrible rebounders, they just weren't great.

I would argue that the lack of defense led to a lower number or rebounds because once some guy steps up to help with dribble penetration, the backside guy who rotates couldn't get the board on a missed shot. I saw A LOT of late off-ball rotations this season once a player got beat and someone had to help. That leads to being out of position and poor rebounding as well.

Technique, technique, technique.

Interestingly we were the 2nd best rebounding team on the defensive end (74.3%) in the conference yet dead last in offensive rebounding (23.0%). If Doug Taylor gets more minutes this year that should change a little.

I don't know why everyone is so surprised by KK's lack of rebounding numbers or prowess. He's a legit 3 man who just happens to play 4 for Ohio. He's out on the perimeter both offensively and defensively more than he's inside.

I beg to differ. He's a 4 man who happens to shoot the three rather well. I usually consider guys that play the three as great ball handlers as well. I don't currently think of KK as that type of guy.

The bottom line with OUr team is that somehow, they need to change a little bit how they approach hitting the offensive glass. Too often there's only one guy near the paint on a missed shot.

Villanova played defense to a very high degree. we don't even seem to understand what defense is. if we can learn to play a higher level of d than last year, we can be SCARY good.

also, i haven't seen anything on here about the three games Kenny K was out and how good this team looked. is it possible he becomes the sixth man instant offense to this team? his lack of effort on the defensive end was embarassing.

Agree with you on how high the ceiling is for this team. I'm not willing to say KK isn't giving the effort. I am willing to discuss the difference while he was out, and the idea of him being the first man in off the bench. I still maintain that someone should have gone to him in the end of season meetings to talk about adding a dimension to his game. They may have. KK is very, very talented, and could be a difference maker for this team this year. He just needs to get better on D, or around the paint.
