If you read the ESPN story about Pastner, that's actually incorrect:

"Pastner averaged more than 24 wins over his first six seasons. His 148 victories at that point made him the ninth-winningest coach in Division I history for his first six seasons."

He had a 31 win season in 2012-13.

If I recall, he collected a lot of those wins while Memphis was still in C-USA. But my original thought was his NCAA tournament success...or lack thereof.

SPEAKING OF MEMPHIS:

Word today is that Tubby Smith is their new coach.

Been seeing TUbby as a candidate for a couple of days now...He is going into a better situation with recruiting and money. Did well his last gig...I am still flummoxed that Minny got rid of him.

They wanted to have the young, flashy coach with the "pedigree" name of Pitino. Ooppss.

The locals in Memphis might complain, but Tubby is a pretty good hire in my opinion.

Perfect hire IMO. Crazy that UK and Memphis now linked in two ways.

UK: Tubbs, Gillespie, Cal
Memphis: Cal, Pastner, Tubbs

Related to Tubby to Memphis, we now have Chris Beard, made official at UNLV last week, now reportedly interviewing for the job at Texas Tech a week later.
