It's pretty straight forward again this year. Top four seeds get single byes.
With Akron pretty much a lock for #1 seed, does the West Champion get the #2 seed automatically?
Not anymore. It's just the team with the 2nd best record.
Wow...didn't realize that. Great decision by MAC.

What a difference a week makes. Are we advocating putting a hold on that nationwide coaching search?

Phillips getting out coached again. Blew another 18 point lead. Third time that has happened this year. Call a god dam timeout!!!! When teams are on a big run. First time all season I'd say were more likely to get 20. @Ball State and @Buffalo and we get a pair of wins. We got @BGSU, @Akron and @Miami with EMU, Miami and Buffalo at home. We got six games left. They schedule sets ups very nice for the Bobcats if BGSU and Miami keep struggling at home and we take advantage of that and get wins in those places. We would be the #2 seed in the MAC if it plays out like if we take care of business at home next couple of games.
And apparently the team HAS gotten their heads out of their butts.

The team is on pace for a first round bye. Only 1/2 game up on Ball State, Toledo and NIU but Ohio is 4-1 against those schools. This year the Top 4 (Akron, Buffalo, Kent, Ohio) have separation from the pack. Ohio is favored to win 5 out of 6 remaining regular season games. The team is a lock to finish over .500 and that means post season tournament. Ohio will have a guaranteed 8 more games and only has to win 4 of them to hit 20. Counting the games Ohio would be favored in (5 MAC, 1 MAC Tourney, 1 post season) that puts the team right around 23 wins on the season.

A slight correction. With Ohio favored in 5 of its 6 MAC games it would be favored to finish as a #2 seed and should make a MAC Final. That would give the Cats 23 wins going into a post season tournament so 24-25 wins is conceivable.

With that late season swoon Ken Pom projects out to 20 wins now. Was not looking so good a few weeks back. Still has us struggling up at Kron.

Lose one of those others and this board will have a load of paroxysms

The worry now has got to be that we're too young to understand that our recent stretch of fine play means nothing to any team we play. They aren't going to hand us a W because of recent past work.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, although it may be on the board somewhere, but we have gone 5-1 in our last 6 games and every game but one (NIU 6-6) was against a team with a winning record in conference with three of them road wins.

OUVan, don't say anything about beating teams with winning records on the road or not. It might spill over into a FB discussion.

Bottom line, like anyone who has been watching, YES, this team is growing up! Still a bunch of mistakes (I think) on defense and some questionable shot selection and turnovers but overall they have become a lot of fun to watch. I do hope we win 5/6 to close it out and then do well in the Tourney.

Time will tell...

I never said I didn't appreciate this team and I never wanted a coaching search. I simply said I doubted we would get to 20. Now, it's there for the taking, but we ain't there yet. I'd like to think Miami is a lock, but I'd also have thought BG was a lock and we lost both games to them. Kent and Akron have both lost at Miami in the last week, so pardon my caution in proclaiming 20 wins is in the bag. The important thing is that this group is trending mightily in the right direction, which could not be said last year!

my comment on this thread was that based on the performance I had just witnessed (game 2 of the season I think) OHIO was not a 20-win team. and, frankly, at the time, we were not. 20 is still in front of us, and seems likely, but I agree it's not a lock. @ Akron + @ a Miami team that seems to have found themselves lately. Lord knows what that will mean as far as where and vs whom in the tourney opener.

So, after the second game of the season you think you know the future? That's why they play the games. The reason we were not a 20 win team is that we only played 2 games. Nobody in the country was a 20 win team at that point.

The thing is that you were also basing that performance on a flawed perception of the team we were playing. Tennessee State just thrashed a very good Belmont team for their 20th win on the season. They were that night, and have been all year, a good defensive team. In retrospect the 8 point win over Tennessee State turned out to be a much better win than the 10 point win over Florida Gulf Coast that everyone was so giddy about.
