08-09 :Tulsa

Believe it or not, that Tulsa team that we beat in 2008 had two NBA players on it. Ben Uzoh played 60 games over the last three years with the Nets/Cavs/Raptors and Jerome Jordan played 21 games with the Knicks last year.

Lavoy Allen was on the Temple team that we hosted in 2010. He is now a regular rotation player on the 76ers: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6424/lavoy-allen

No on this one. He was at Florida when Marshall joined the MAC.

Correction: This wasn't in the Convo but in Grover and/or Men's Gym.  I guess interpreted this as "playing in Athens."  Sorry if that wasn't the intent.

Oh yes, in that regard we have to add Nate (The Great) Thurmond and that guy from Miami whose name I'm forgetting at the moment . .. and also Jerry Lucas and the gang . . . the lists goes on and on.

Yup - in the stands. Had to use a cane to walk. He was there for an event at the University - can't remember what it was, I think something related to international students - came to the game. You could not miss him when he stood up!

not that it matters much but I thought it was 08

EDIT

Nope that 07 is correct. We were down there on visit. Maybe the Kent game.

CSB: A guy I know saw Manute Bol uptown that day and bought him a shot. Manute declined, saying he only drank Guinness. R.I.P.

Guinness export stout I am sure - a fave of those in tropical climes (room temperature preferred) - strong stuff too. But - it doesn't come in a "tallboy"!

I'm not sure how to top the last two completely useless, off-topic posts from the resident thread killer, but to get shabamon's thread back on track:

Willie Smith from Missouri played for a few seasons.

Yinka Dare from George Washington.

Jared Jordan from Marist was drafted, but never made it in a regular season NBA game.

Last year not too many people knew this, but Xavier Silas from Northern Illinois played for the 76ers in a couple games.

Wow.  You are a dick.

Can't wait to see how you carp at everyone else here who puts up jokes or offshoot posts.

It's the holidays; maybe someone will get you a heart, brains or a sense of humor.

The 'quesne vs. WVU thread dissolved into an argument about Rush vs Springsteen.  Why don't you trash everyone over there about that, slowpoke.

You have nothing to say but you say it loudly.  If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.,  It must be nice to be free of the burden of intelligence.

Tyrone Corbin was on the Depaul squad that fell to the Bobcats on Valentine's Day (night), 1983.

I was thinking about this again today. To update, current NBA players who have played in the Convo include Maurice Ndour, Richaun Holmes, Lavoy Allen, Kyle O'Quinn, Devin Harris. I think that's it unless anyone can remember anyone playing there on their high school teams.

First player I thought of for high school was BJ Mullens from Canal Winchester. But I can't find anything about CW playing in the Convo during his time there. Would have most likely been during the tournament.

Canal was in the Central District and the bracket they were in always went to Dayton Region, not Athens region.

Ahh that explains it. Weird, when I was in high school there were in the D3 Athens Region and we lost to them in the Convo.

I didn't see Shayne Whittington mentioned yet from WMU, but he had himself a roster spot for the Pacers for a few years. Saw action in limited games.

I heard on ESPN radio recently, when they were for some unknown reason talking Sixers, that Richaun Holmes is really impressing over there. I checked last night's box and saw he had 6 points/3 boards in 12 minutes. Talented kid, but Philly is a tough place to be on the roster behind Embiid and Okafor.

Be patient. Those Sixers big men have a tendency to miss time with injuries.

Whittington's not on an NBA roster and it looks like Kaman has called it a career, too.

Holmes has the tools to stick around the NBA for several years, but unless Ben Simmons can play the three, he may be trade bait sooner than later. Embiid can play. Noel can play. Okafor looked like garbage last night.

Twins Kim and Kerry Hughes were on the Wisconsin team that played in the Convo in 72-73. Kerry played for several years in the NBA. Kim was drafted by the Cavs, but never played an official game...
