Yeah, that Kendall Jackson style of chardonnay is so 90's.

That's what they'll probably be saying about red blends in ten years.

Before that it Pinot preceded by Merlot. In this heat, I'll take a bone dry crisp rose on the deck.

If we're talking wine in the summer, I'm in complete agreement. The other, equally good alternative, this time of year, is a nice gin & tonic.

Speaking of the Green and White Club, our legacy scholarship fund continues to grow and benefit those students who volunteer their time to help make the department what it is. This will be the third year that we've been able to provide a scholarship to a worthy student. If you're looking for someplace to make a donation to help those who volunteer to help others, send it to the OU Foundation and note it's for the Green and White Club legacy scholarship.

Hey, rice-paddy grunt, you in to all this refined wined tasting stuff? I didn't think you Army guys were big on French Chardonnay. You always struck me as more of a beer and ripple guy. ;-)

The above opinion explains a lot.

Bud is an absolutely foul-tasting liquid. Must rot minds as well.
I've tasted Bud but am quite sure that I've never swallowed more than an ounce or two of it. Bud is what beer tastes like when there are mistakes in manufacturing.

I assume that PBR is similar swill.

I've never really considered myself a beer snob. My favorite beer is one someone else buys, and probably the only beers I specifically get cravings for now and then would be Guinness and Labatt. I'll buy a six pack of PBR at the grocery store every now and then if nothing else jumps out at me, because it isn't too bad for what it is, and it's like $5.

Same with wine. When I buy it, it's usually because I'm just wanting to unwind with a beverage and not particularly feeling beer. I'll get something cheap that goes down easy that my wife will enjoy too so I don't feel guilty about drinking a bottle all by myself.

That being said, after doing the Bourbon Trail a couple months ago, I am officially declaring myself a whiskey snob. The mass produced swill (**cough** Jim Beam **cough**) just does not compare to good stuff.

(If you've never been to the Buffalo Trace distillery, and if you get a chance, you really should go. It's like stepping back in time about 100 years, plus there's some really good bourbon.)

Some great stuff there C. I have said for years - "If I had to live the rest of my life with only one beer to drink - it would be Guinness". Great beer cold, cool, or warm. Full of flavor - and not too low or high alcohol. Not too hoppy, just enough for balance. Not too dry, not too sweet. It's been around for 250 years - it will be around another 250 yrs after 99.99% of the others fade into the past.

My pat answer to "What is your favorite wine?" is - "The one that's in my glass". I agree with Swank - Good Rose' in the warmer months is hard to resist. The "America's" are catching on to this. "Brose'" is the trend - Bro. Depends on the Day/Weather-Season/cuisine/company - etc. "No rules" better than "rules"....

Whiskey - or Wiskey? For me - it's Bourbon. Buffalo Trace is indeed a go to producer of multiple "brand/label" choices - and great value at many of those options. Personally - for everyday Old Fashioned's, w/Coke ("Coke - No Pepsi"), or straight sippin' shot - Old Forrester 86 Proof is my choice for best bang for the buck. A huge array of more premium selections/much higher prices (Woodford in particular comes to mind) - but after some fairly extensive "research" - Old Forrester really delivers great value for the $!

Just made the Bourbon Trail a few weeks ago. Great experience in a beautiful part of our country. My fav is Willet Distillery near Bardstown, Ky. Buffalo Trace may be ground zero for best Bourbon in the world type status.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a huge Woodford Reserve fan but don't like the price. I'll give Old Forrester a try. I've recently read that it is similar but the article emphasized it is NOT the same. Apparently that's a common rumor.

I was at the Woodford Reserve distillery a couple of years ago on a tour. I tried to sip on a double without watering it down in the tasting room. Some strong stuff. Distilleries are a must do experience.

Just to be clear - Not the same. But O.F. Great bourbon for less than half the price. And O.F. beats the competition in the well, to Beam White label, up to about $30 btl in the course of my fairly extensive comparison tastings experience.....
