Jeff Goodman shared this on Twitter and noted what a difficult task it is to try to rank every team, but said Buffalo was ranked too low.

So there are only two teams that we have scheduled better than us? I'm scratching my head at the $2000 I just spent to see this.

Kentucky season ticket holders must be beside themselves using this line of thinking :)

I hadn't even noticed them. They lost one of their top 7 players and are ranked 120 spots lower than they finished last year. That's absurd.

We are #111 in KenPom.com's new rankings.

Other notables.

EMU - 88
Akron - 91
Buffalo - 110
Miami - 287

The MAC is 9th overall as a conference. That is about the highest I have ever seen us. We are above the CAA/MWC/MVC.

We finished 86 (RPI) last year and only lost one key contributor (setty), plus Kaminski had a subpar year. CBS has us too low, but we have to prove it.

Miami is going to be an interesting situation. Cooper is a lame duck but supposedly is bringing in a solid class. They have 7 true freshman on the roster. They have 6 holdovers from last year but none of them played 20 minutes a game. 4 of them were in the rotation however so they have a little experience. The returnees shot about 33% from the field and 29% from 3. Unless these freshman are ridiculously good Cooper is gone. And if he is gone the next coach is going to have a real problem on his hands if he can't retain most of these freshman. 5 of the holdovers are juniors (the lone senior appears to be a walk-on type) so will have one more year. The new coach will almost have to go the JUCO route to even out the classes. Otherwise he'll have an entire roster of freshman and sophs his 2nd season. Could be tough to find a quality coach willing to step into this mess.

One has to believe that's the only reason Cooper was retained. On the plus side, the next coach will get to see that they aren't quick to terminate a coaches contract. ;)

Please fill me in. Cooper is to be fired and that end of the season? This has been announced ahead of time? He is really a "lame duck"? I've never heard of such a thing in college hoops. I must have missed the big announcement. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

There has been no announcement. Frankly, I was shocked he wasn't fired after last year. But he is a lame duck since his contract expires after this season. They will only have one scholarship available (and I'm not even sure they have that one since the senior in question only played in something like 5 games last year) but recruiting is always challenging for a coach who doesn't have a contract for next year. Cooper is going to have to have a super season to earn an extension and I just don't see that happening with the team they have assembled.

I am still most scared with Buffalo. Conner, Massingburg, Perkins, Hamilton, Smart, Kadiri, Johnson back..they are going to be dangerous. I think Big Dog, Cheatham, Jackson and Robotham are a big 4 close to ours. Don't sleep on Western either with probably the best 1-2 punch with Wilder and Haymond (other than Simmons and Tone).

Western blows. Frankly I am more concerned with Central, Eastern, and Northern Illinois out of the West.

I honestly believe this will be the worst Miami team any of us have ever seen. They have no scholarship seniors. Their leading returning scorer, Harouna, averaged less than six points per game last year. They have no true point guard. At one point, they had one of the most impressive recruiting classes among mid-majors, but it has deteriorated. Braxton Beverly backed out of his commitment, reclassified for 2017 to play a post-grad year at Hargrave and is now committed to Ohio State. Derrick Daniels from Thurgood Marshall high school caught a huge case of senioritis after committing to Miami: Barely graduated, ineligible from playing his senior year, and now has some serious legal problems.

Agree with you on UB. They return some nice pieces, and bring in 4 pretty good freshmen.

Toledo is an enigma. They lost two of their top 3 scorers (Boothe & Mosley) from a team that clearly underperformed last year. Kowalcyk doesn't seem to value defense.

Odd Fact - Toledo vs Teams from Michigan 1-8, the rest of the Country 16-7.
