I think this was a topic long before the data crash. I think the only current NBA players who have played in the Convo are Chris Kaman, Lamar Odom, and LaVoy Allen. Are there any others?

Who are some of the memorable players who have seen regular season minutes in the NBA? Of course there were MAC players like Szczerbiak, Bonzi, Boykins, Harper, etc. Who else?

And Dave Jamerson, among others. I was more curious about non-Bobcats.

Kevin Martin is from Zanesville. I wonder if he played any high school ball in the Convo.

Pretty sure Rick Mount never played in the NBA, but he did play for several ABA teams including the Indiana Pacers and Kentucky Colonels.

Marin Bota had NBA SKILLS......sorry I had to

Source = databasebasketball (and my memory). The easy part was compiling players from MAC teams who were in the MAC after the Convo opened in '68 and have had players in the NBA. The harder part would be finding NBA players from some of our non-con opponents who played a game or two in the Convo (Lamar Odom when at Rhode Island comes to mind, but there's tons from Kentucky, W Virginia, Ohio St, Xavier etc over the years I'd think).

But anyway, here are the MAC guys, their schools and the first year they played in the NBA:

Bonzi Wells - Ball St - 1998
Theron Smith - Ball St - 2003

Antonio Daniels - Bowling Green - 1997
Cornelius Cash - Bowling Green - 1976
Keith McLeod - Bowling Green - 2003

Nate Huffman - C Michigan - 2002
Chris Kaman - C Michigan - 2003
Ben Kelso - C Michigan - 1973
Dan Majerle - C Michigan - 1988
Jim McElroy - C Michigan - 1975
Ben Poquette - C Michigan - 1977
Dan Roundfield - C Michigan - 1975

Earl "the squirrel" Boykins - E Michigan - 1998
Fred Cofield - E Michigan - 1985
Derrick Dial - E Michigan - 1999
Wayne Dillard - E Michigan - 1975
George "Ice Man" Gervin - E Michigan - 1972 (EMU joined MAC in '71 which I think was Gervin's final year there)
Grant Long - E Michigan - 1988
Carl Thomas - E Michigan - 1991
Charles Thomas - E Michigan - 1991

John Edwards - Kent St - 2004
Jim Zoet - Kent St - 1982
(honorable mention to Antonio Gates in 01-02)

Tamar Slay - Marshall - 2002
Jason Williams - Marshall - 1998

Ron Harper - Miami - 1986
Phil Lumpkin - Miami - 1974
Ira Newble - Miami - 2000
Wally "World" Szczerbiak - Miami - 1999
(what no Devin Davis? I'm shocked! :) )

John Brisker - Toledo - 1969
Tom Kozelko - Toledo - 1973
Dick Miller - Toledo - 1980
Steve Mix - Toledo - 1969
Casey Shaw - Toledo - 1998

Paul Griffin - W Michigan - 1976
Ben Handlogten - W Michigan - 2003
Walker Russell - W Michigan - 1982

You know what else this list shows? There has been a severe dearth of NBA talent in the MAC since the early to mid 2000's.  NOBODY since John Edwards in 2004, and the only current MAC player in the NBA is Kaman...just sad.

The Cavs played Buffalo in a pre-season game in the Convo around 1974. Buffalo included Bob McAdoo and Ernie DiGregorio that evening. We''ll have to flush out a box score from that game for the other regulsrs who played that night. Very neat to have had an NBA game in the Convo, thanks to Cavs owner Nick Mileti.

Separate threads listing NBA players who appeared in Grover, and notable coaches who have coached in the Convo would also be interesting. Lucas and Havlicek, I believe, played in the first game at Grover, and Bobby Knight lost in the Convo back in the day, as did Ray Meyer of DePaul, and Jim Larranaga (Final Four coach). We could probably come up with a suprisingly interesting coach's list. But these should be separate threads, not mixed in with this one.

I watched Jalen Rose and Vashon Leonard play a high school game in the Convo.  They were on the same team out of Detroit..

I've seen a 50-year-old Clark Kellogg in the Convo the past few seasons. Had a heck of a career with the Pacers until it was ended by bad knees.

In that case, I have seen Bill Walton, Manute Bol, and Tim Hardaway in the Convo. Maybe a Karl Malone sighting will take place in the future as he is Javarez Willis' uncle.

Is this about guys who actually played a game in the NBA or guys who were that in their own mind?

I'm not sure how to top the last two completely useless, off-topic posts from the resident thread killer, but to get shabamon's thread back on track:

Willie Smith from Missouri played for a few seasons.

Yinka Dare from George Washington.

Jared Jordan from Marist was drafted, but never made it in a regular season NBA game.

Last year not too many people knew this, but Xavier Silas from Northern Illinois played for the 76ers in a couple games.
