Insert stock observation here:

Ohio is stronger for Jim Christian's treachery.

"Motorin'" Lyrics by Night Ranger
(originally posted when Christian left Ohio)

Mister Christian
Oh the time has come
And you know you're not the only one
To leave
OU

Where you goin'
What you lookin' for?
You know that Boston chowder don't compare
With the Burrito
Buggy

Motoring
What's your price for flight?
In finding a job "that's right"
Leaving the green & white?

Motoring
What's your price for flight?
The Eagles are in your sights
BA's message board will fight

[Instrumental Interlude]

Coach, you know
The job search is a fog
Don't forget you had Kellogg
Nice run
Was fun

Mister Christian
Boston's quite a trip
Wished you'd done more to beat the Zips
I hate
The Roo

You're motoring
What's your price for flight?
In finding a job "that's right"
Leaving the green & white?

Mister Christian
We wish you luck
No matter what we know Miami Sucks
You know
It's true

But you're motoring
Yeaaahhhh, motoring.

JC = Worst hire since Billy Hahn.
Considering we haven't had a bad hire since Hahn that's not saying much.

This actually got me thinking and looking at our history I'm going to say we have had zero bad hires. We've had 2 coaches that did poor jobs but they were both obvious hires IMO, Dale Bandy & Billy Hahn. Both were long time assistants under successful coaches. They didn't work out but I guarantee there was no loud grumbling when they were hired. You have to go back to the 1919 hiring of Frank Gullum to find a coach, other than the aforementioned two, that had a winning percentage lower than .550. It's been a nice run.

OCF, what can you share with us about your memories of Frank Gullum?

He was also the football coach from at about the same time:
Frank Gullum 1918–1919 7-5-1 .577

Though my personal memories of him are somewhat dim, I do have a friend who once rented a house on Lancaster Street (in the early 1970s) that apparently had once been owned by Gullum. He found in a crevice somewhere a series of cards on which Gullum had written diagrams of football plays. He gave those cards to the university archives. Maybe Frank Solich should take a look at them. ;-)

Was there a right hash, right option pitch 5+ yrds behind scrimmage line on 3rd on those diagrams? Maybe they got into Albin's hands.....

You are 100% wrong about Billy Hahn and Dale Bandy. Both worked under MANY bad situations that only a few people know about. Both bled green & white and continue to be loyal Bobcats
Both have been back to Athens to see old friends.
Loyal Bobcats are with the Cats Win or Tie............................Seems to me that you jump on and off the Bobcat bandwagon often
Do me a favor..................stay off........

Billy Hahn always seemed like a great guy to me. But, didn't he have two NBA players (Graham and Jamerson) plus MAC Freshman of the Year Reggie Rankin when he coached?... Just should have done better met thinks....
