Youngstown wins 90-82 against a lethargic and sloppy Akron team.

YSU won on the glass and on defense.

I hope the Zips play like this against us.

Saw most of 2nd half. Akron played selfishly and Big Dog appears that he could have benefited from taking care of his body this off-season the way Tony Campbell did.

Saw most of it. They didn't get the ball in to Isaiah enough. Agree they were sloppy and overelied on threes as they are wont to do sometimes.

Give YSU credit. They were on fire from three in second half.

Big Dog looks Borderline obese and no apparent quicks on either end of the floor. Team was shockingly undisciplined for coach Dambrot.

This is why Akron is completely useless.

Akron will be fine, of course. First game woes.

They have a freshman PG, Travean Dunn-Martin, out of Huntington, WV who played well yesterday. 5 foot 6. Got a lot of PT and ended up in double figures.

I agree. It's waaaaay too early to be tapdancing on Zippy's grave.

Of course they will be fine when the MAC schedule hits. they always are. They embarrass the conference in November and December. Somehow find their S*** and win the conference in January and February, then make the tournament and embarrass the conference again.

Just read through the game thread on the Zippy board and it was significant fun. Not just watching a little panic setting in but it's also an interesting peek inside how they view their team. If you can wade through the Chicken Littles there is some pretty good information.

This was funny^^^^. Spot on and hopefully they don't get another chance to dance and embarrass the conference again.

This was a 3pt shooting bonanza. YSU just had the better second half. I don't think it's an embarrassing loss for Akron. Just a little bit surprising.

I'm interested to know just out of shape Big Dough really is. He was a major problem for us last year. It's my hope that Taylor, after a year to get stronger, and for the knee to get healthier, can mitigate some of the problems he gave us.

In looking at the box score, I also noted that Ivey gave them a ton of production off the bench in that game.

From the little bit of the second half that I watched, Big Dog looked terribly out of shape. While 9 players were sprinting down the court to YSU's offensive end, Big Dog was chugging along, getting about 3/4 downcourt before having to turn around and go the other way.

And Sparrow, I have to disagree. If Akron is suppose to be one of the better MAC teams (or even a middle of the pack team) then the Zips should not lose to YSU. Unless, the MAC isn't as good as I thought it would be this year or YSU is better than I thought. Both possibilities.

I'll echo those thoughts on Doug Taylor. Watching him on Saturday, he looked like a completely different guy and I was thinking how much more help he'll be defensively moving the way he is and the knee being more stable. There were times last year where he was just a big body in there. He's a lot more than that now. It's fantastic to see.

Their 5'6" Freshman PG looks like he will need time to get comfortable.

Who uses 5'6" point guards these days? He looks like he is of slight build too.

He had 12pts in 20 minutes of play and no turnovers. I didn't see the game, but that would lead me to believe he was at least comfortable in that game.

He had 1 assist and launched a few very long 3 balls early in the possession.

Agree that he will improve over the season.
