Hope they have someone with Bobcat ties as color commentator?

Would've been nice with all the OU alum out there with TV/Radio experience to bring someone in with OU ties rather than someone with Buckeye dripping off of them.

Totally agree. I find it hard to believe, considering our strong tradition in sports broadcast journalism, that a pure Bobcat would not have been available.

The first-half ESPN3 feed was decent. The second-half feed was non-existent.

It's a site wide espn3 outage. I couldn't get the Buffalo Miami game to load either

Interesting, it seems the actual TV broadcats (ESPN, ESPN2) are available online but none of the ESPN3-only ones. Bad timing for that.

I feel the same way, but honestly guys...I'm just glad we can watch all of the games now. We've come a long way in this department.

Or in the case of Today, we can at least watch the first half then waste a half hour trying to get the feed back. We're not exactly off to a smashing start.

"We've" isn't entirely accurate. It's ESPN finally getting off their asses and installing all the equipment necessary for the broadcasts that they promised when the MAC signed the deal around 3 years ago. They SLOWLY implemented the stuff school-by-school....and in their infinite wisdom, had Ohio towards the bottom of that list. Schools with crummy followings like Ball State and NIU and Miami were up and running long before Ohio.

Just another reason why I despise the ESPN/MAC relationship. We are just a old, ratty sweatshirt that sits at the bottom of their closet. They get to us when it's convenient for them. Like throwing us on TV for football on Tuesday/Wednesday when they need programming...and RARELY ever using MAC for Saturday or weeknight basketball games.

But I agree...it is nice to be able to actually watch the games now. I'm just reserved in my applause to ESPN for the luxury.

Did anyone else watching on Saturday notice that the leftside basket was difficult to see because of the white backdrop on the video screen behind? I don't remember ever having this issue at the Convo before. Usually the screens are a different color or just don't interfere with the hoop.

It was the individual school's responsibility to buy the equipment. Some schools, like Ball St., already had HD equipment. Ohio did not and had to clear some budget dollars for the expenditure.

Hey....I get that it took a long time. I'm just thankful to watch OHIO basketball with nice graphics, instant replay and cameras that aren't on crooked tripods. Only drawback....radio delay and can't listen to Russ. However, I think Marty Bannister does a heck of a good job. It can always be worse and we've seen that too.

It appears the camera is stationed in the same spot that was used for the old single-camera streams. TV broadcasts have used a much higher angle and the video board isn't in the line of sight with the hoop. I wouldn't be surprised if they change to the higher angle at some point during the season.

Tonight was my first convo ESPN3 experience. I played softball with Marty years ago, good guy and solid broadcaster despite the obvious lack of ties and affection for the Bobcats. But I don't like what it does to Russ & Rob's numbers...seems like they could just pipe in the home team's radio broadcast to suffice and save a lot.

If the game is on ESPN3, I won't be listening to Russ and Rob. Hate it for them, but that's the bad side of getting to watch games now.

I think he calls a good game but his lack of prep work made for some cringe-worthy moments. I'm getting old and it's early so I only remember a couple. When they were commenting on Ohio and Sam Houston playing several of the same teams. "It's almost like they got together with each other to set some home and homes." They then speculated on the two teams playing again in the play-in games in Dayton. There were several other comments that had me shaking my head.

Confusing Carter for Campbell and several other similar mistakes were pretty brutal.

It's pretty easy to fire up Russ and Rob on the TuneIn app and sync it with the ESPN3 broadcast. That's what I do for every game. Just have to pause the radio feed a few seconds to sync it up. Best of both worlds!

Yes! That First Four comment was so incredibly bad....I was baffled. Anyone with a pulse who has watched MAC basketball knows that they will almost never be in the play-in game. Just a bad, uneducated comment. Even Ohio as a 9-seed to win MAC tourney was a 14-seed in NCAA tourney. That kind of stuff drives me crazy. Do your homework. Not hard.

Ridiculous that the TV play-by-play guy for Ohio basketball home games doesn't have any historical background on not just the MAC...but FOR THE TEAM HE'S CALLING GAMES FOR.

Doesn't do anything to shed his Buckeye background and that he's only doing this because he needed the work after being let go from OSU women's PBP and football sidelines.

How can you make that comment and then try go expand on it is so bad. Ohio is projected to finish in the top two in the MAC and possibly win the MAC Tourney. That would presumably put them around a 25-win team. What 25-win team has EVER played in the First Four. Just a dumb, dumb, comment.

I will continue to tune-in/stream-in....but he's getting dangerously close to being muted.

It's bad enough when these clowns on CBSN & ESPN have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to the MAC....but your "hometown" announcer should.

Another reason why I don't understand how they couldn't or wouldn't find an OU alum for that job.

Sounds like a well crafted letter to help educate the man is in order. If that does not help sounds like OUr AD needs to have a talk and as a fanbase we meed to let ESPN3 know what a buffoon they have sent.

Gentlemen...I was made aware of your comments by a friend who frequents this site, and went back and listened to the area(s) of concerns:

First: I am well aware of the history of Ohio and the MAC. The comments surrounding the First Four were not made to say that Ohio or a MAC team would play there. But if you've done your homework, you will see teams from leagues such as the SEC & Big 10 HAVE played in those games...so really all bets are off when it comes to what teams get sent there. We were simply making the point these teams (and these type of games) get you ready for a situation LIKE the First Four.

Second: On the "home and home" remark re: the schedule. My broadcast partner Bob Spears made the remark in jest. If you would check ahead and look at the teams mentioned, they are all playing each other in the non-conference, and most in close proximity on their schedules....so it does seem as if there was some sort of unofficial type scheduling deal set up. That was our point.

Third: on Campbell and Carter. Simple slip on my part, and I am sorry. If you noticed I did correct it immediately.

I appreciate the passion you all have for the Bobcats and Ohio basketball. As we are in the first year of this package, know there are bugs still being worked out. I am fortunate to be a part of this, and please understand my past in Columbus is just that. I do not mind at all your comments or critique, and know the best effort is being put forth to make this something all Ohio fans can be proud of.

Marty -

We care and a lot of us have a short fuse with certain things, largely because teams we follow are persistently overlooked, underrated or ignored. I'm glad that you care too. Most of us on here will be tuned in if we're not at the game themselves, so I appreciate the olive branch and will hope for improvements as you do more of these.

I certainly appreciate that. I am very happy and proud to be the one selected to call these games...and we will give Ohio fans a product they can be proud of. The internet can be a wonderful place to hide, and thanks for your response!

I realize I could easily turn on the Ohio broadcast in a number of different ways and mute the ESPN3 broadcast, but like FearLeon, the reality is I just won't...and that is coming from a huge Rob & Russ fan. It just isn't enough for me to mess with 2 feeds and timing issues and whatever else, and I do like to hear different/outside perspectives on our Cats.

I guess I didn't realize we had a dedicated team for all the ESPN3 Convo broadcasts. That should make for some growing knowledge about our program for sure. I sure hope they are getting paid more than the Miami crew given the much larger audiences!

Welcome Marty, appreciate your willingness to come and talk here. You do a good job and we're lucky to have you. Like others, the only time I cringed was also the first 4 comment...I think most of us just took it as meaning the bottom of the barrel variety of the first 4 implying we could be a 16+ seed.

And always remember, OHIO.
