Oh, El.

You did not buy a pet gear travel bag on Amazon. Because they aren't there. I'm serious; pm me if you need more info on this.

And, thanks for pointing out TOS as a coach who did win a MAC title in his 7 years at OHIO but who many here think was quite mediocre here. Then, you can contrast Solich with no MAC title in 11 years here but who's still largely revered.

Everyone can hate me but you and the SFB cannot deny the different treatment on the MAC title consideration.

[edit: I changed my tag line to reflect pet GEAR travel bag. ]
1. Stop selling- I have a suitable pet bag.
2. Whatever
3. Nothing but love for you, MS.

Looks like the MAC schedule is coming out at 11 this morning. In the past, we have released our full schedule at this time as well.

Interesting that the Ohio ladies can get 2 Big 10 teams on their schedule including one at home and we get Urbana.

I'd be interested to know how scheduling for the ladies differs to allow that to happen. I have assumed that getting anyone like a B1G team to Athens is more or less outside the realm of possibility anymore.

My guess would be that not all Power 5 women's programs have the money available for buy games, so they sign more home and homes with mid-majors. There are far more "have-not" programs in the women's game than the men.

Sorry for slight thread hijack. But see the recruiting thread on Culver, more specifically Freeman Sr.'s analysis.

This is schedule related in that it may give some insight on what kind of teams we'll have upcoming years.

I would almost guarantee that is the case. I love how someone is trying to turn this into a "we don't schedule enough power teams at home" argument though.

Urbana, that is about as bad as it gets in d2. If you have ever seen their gym you would wonder how they recruit anyone. The school was bankrupt and the only reason it stayed open was because it was bought out by Franklin University. I guess the keep the original name because of the historical ties to John Chapman.

Maybe it's just an observation? I admit I wouldn't mind seeing one more game at home this Nov/Dec that's a bigger opponent. But it takes two to tango, and maybe they weren't able to find that dance partner. The flip side of that is that having Iona and WKU (assuming a bit here) in return games to Athens next year is a good thing.

I was recruited by Urbana when they were NAIA. If it's the same gym, it's smaller than some high school gyms I've played in.

The flip side of that is a tough road schedule: At Xavier, Pitt, St. Bonnie, and Creighton, among others.

I actually like the Urbana game, specifically of the timing. Not to slight them, but after a decent break and time for coaches, etc. to review tape, it could serve as something like a scrimmage before the MAC season starts. A place to implement some new or different things and get some guys off the bench to get them into some situations before the start of the conference season.

Stealing from an article about Dayton basketball, written by a fellow Bobcat, Archie Miller said this when referring to the non-D1 opponent on the Flyers schedule:

"If you’re going to put yourself in a position to have to schedule a game that’s going to hurt your non-conference schedule, at times you’re better off playing a non-D-I, which doesn’t go against you at all.”"

That's a good take. Scheduling Urbana to keep the rust off over Xmas is a good get. If there was a good D1 opponent they were courting and did not work out then they may have had a spot to fill.... sometimes ya got to take what you get if that does not materialize. I hope over the years they keep scheduling smarter and to the level of the team you are building. Saul is doing well assembling the team. He has a couple of left overs from JC but our AD has a scheduling philosophy and he has been in the room as part of the selection committee so as we get more competitive hopefully he can continue to build the program. Would be interesting to hear those thoughts and reconcile the "why Urbana?" question with the happenings behind the schedule. I prefer to think we may not have been able to get a Major to fit our timeline. Wasn't it about that time we played a pretty good Temple team a few years back?

Madonna (NAIA)
Omaha (18-14 RPI 143, not an awful game)
Siena Heights (NAIA)
Marygrove (NAIA)
Long Beach State (20-15 RPI 79, solid game)

None of these are exhibitions. Honestly, I'd rather have UB's schedule than EMU's

yeah, EMU pads its win totals with FOUR non D1s every year. its bogus, there should be a limit. For example, you look at last year's record and you see 18-15, but in reality its 14-15 vs D1. Big difference.

I feel like there needs to be something done at the NCAA level when it comes to scheduling. More than 1 or 2 of these kinds of games needs to be reflecting in the RPI or SOS somehow. Also, this is something that the MAC really needs to address.

The question is, would you rather see NAIA/D2 opponents, or the worst of the worst in D1?

Looking forward to the series with the Bobcats. WKU has a heck of a recruiting class for next year so we'll be bringing a pretty good team to Athens in '17.

Anybody planning on making the trip down to Bowling Green in December?
