Just so everyone knows, a 5-4 Belmont team nipped Western Kentucky by 21 points earlier this season. Just sayin'.

We are not that good. We will sit home again during NCAA time. This is not a great team.

I'm not panicking. but this is pretty disappointing so far. of four moderately challenging road games against decent-but-nothing-special competition, we've lost three in rather unceremonious fashion. I haven't seen anything to indicate this is more than an above average MAC team.

And before anyone says the 2012 team lost some headscratchers too, that was a very different team with a lockdown defense. That team could survive bad shooting nights. You saw how uncomfortable we made good teams with that zone.

I've been saying this since graduation in April, we truly miss Treg Setty probably as much as any player since Jeff Boals got hurt years ago.

This team needs to learn how to win. Very disappointing game. Kind of reminded me of the Toledo game in 2012.

Yes. Certainly time to panic. OR, chuck up 3's, play defense when its convenient and hope for the best - whatever works.

Shooting 57% from the foul line doesn't help much either.

Panic, no...put away dreams of dominance, yes. We haven't met any even remotely challenging test well. Going to have to do some improving if we want to take the MAC.

Comparing two games that frankly aren't comparable. Belmont beat them at home by 21. Home court means a ton in college basketball. Also, Belmont is a pretty darn good basketball team winning that home game by 21.

It would surely seem that way. It's interesting to me, because while I liked Treg a lot, I didn't think the team's performance would be this affected by his departure. I honestly also wonder about the affect of Tony's pre-draft visits, and NBA aspirations are playing into his game.

I saw a lot of parallels in the Iona game from two weeks ago as well. Bad possession to finish the game, crappy foul shooting, Tony getting in foul trouble. All are trends that need to go away. Hopefully the Christmas break allows everyone to refresh themselves.

It's amazing that a team with this type of shooting prowess can be that bad at the FT line.

We make a free throw or a layup here or there and we win. Go get some egg nog.

The team has a couple of months of time to improve for Cleveland. Groce's 2010 team didn't look like much at this point in time and they made it to the second round.

I just have on thing to say: MAC Tournament. The non-conference doesn't mean crap and the MAC regular season is only about seeding. Every year it boils down to Cleveland and no one in the MAC is going to want to play Ohio.

If they continue to play that kind of defense, teams will be lining up around the corner to play them in Cleveland

OU- Country, you crack me up. I have already told you that I am a high school coach of some note/accomplishment. For you to even insinuate that I don't realize the value of home court is condescending and ill advised.
Let's discuss the previous history of Western at home ( primarily because I am compelled to disprove your cursory observations). They defeated that powerful quintet from Cambellsville by 8 points. I realize that is a most impressive win.
They followed that escape with a double overtime win against Kentucky Wesleyan.
Excuse me, what is your point, or did you really have one?

WKU is bad. Watching that game didn't change my mind. They're not good.

The fact we jumped out by 17 proved they're not good.

The fact Ohio blew that 17pt lead shows Ohio is....well...let's just say they need some work.

That was egregious loss to a 4-7 team playing in front of 2200 blue hairs. Not exactly a raucous crowd.

Courtney Lee wasn't walking thru that door for WKU.

No excuse for Ohio to lose that game, especially after building 17pt lead.

None.

I wish you were wrong but 30 years of being a bleed green Cat tells me you are right. Losing to the WKU Grover crew (with Milli Vanilli at PG) and to Iona sealed any chance we had to make a preseason splash. Both WKU and Iona had a big man that battled in Johnson and Washington.

Akron plays tough and with an edge from what I have seen early. If we can't match that, things will not be in our favor.

I waiver between "don't flinch" and wondering if we'll ever win another game.

So, you know, just like when John Groce was coaching.

Tony Campbell needs to call Austin Powers to get his mojo back. (And Tony, your mojo is in the paint. Nobody can hang with you in there. Dominate and open up the court for everyone else.)

Not panicked, but worried. Part of me says that this team will get things together about tournament time, and then we will go on a roll through the MAC tourney and into the NCAAs. Part of me says that this will be another rebuilding year, and next year will be the Saul breakout year. So, I'm arguing with myself about this team. Time will tell which part of me is right! ;-)

But this is year 3 of Saul ball. This team is 90% his guys at this point running his system.

Not to mention we are returning the MAC POY, the league leader in assists (top 10 in country) and we have 6 upper-classmen on the roster (though only 4 play) and returned 4 starters - so we're not "young".

Given the above not sure how you could classify it as a "rebuilding year". If this team has the results of a rebuilding year then it's a bad year, plain and simple.

I assume as a high school coach you spend time speaking to them in such a manner as well?
