No team should score 98 on anybody in 40 minutes. If they want to be special, they will have to focus. This is the year, lets go Cats.

Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling that the locker room afterward, and the ensuing bus ride, was not pleasant. It sounded ugly, and the stat sheet looks ugly. Another hunch says that OUr guys roll Bryant on Saturday. That's my hope anyway.

Saul was far from pleased on radio postgame. Didn't call anyone out by name, but sounded pissed about defensive effort

We are much better defensively this year but we are not a naturally good defensive team. We have to keep focused on it constantly or we'll have more games like last night. And with Marshall's style it's so easy to fall into their tempo trap and get out of your game especially with so many young guys on the floor. Use this game as a teaching tool.

What kind of statement is that? My HS team was over 100 points several times in 32 minutes BEFORE the 3 point line. Loyola Marymount fans may find your view a bit narrow. Scoring efficiency and tempo have increased while the shot clock has decreased for the benefit of an seemingly impatient fanbase obsessed with scoring that can't appreciate the passing game/ball movement and tenacious Defense.

NO team SHOULD score 98 on ANYBODY in 40 minutes? I don't get this ....what kind of reasoning are you using in making that broad sweeping statement? What kind of rationale or evidence can you present to Coaches to discourage them from "letting" this happen? Should we return to 4 corners or do away with the shot clock or tell shooters not to aspire to shoot better each year? I am lost....but I am genuinely interested in learning why and how this thought is here.

I'm hoping this was just "one of those games" that happens 1-3 times per season. Whether it be a no-D shootout or we shoot terribly or whatever.

I agree with bornacatfan. We played a program last night whose goal is to average 100 pts a game. Dantoni has done a surprisingly good job of assembling a very talented and skilled roster. The big question for Marshall is whether they can be consistent on the road against upper division of CUSA.

I don't care what there goal is, you can't be playing defense if a team scores 98 in 40 minutes, especially when you are allowed to run zone defenses. It was poor defense, no way to sugar coat it.

OU-Bryant:
Man, rolling Bryant on Saturday would certainly be a TREMENDOUS accomplishment wouldn't it?
We can only hope. The alternative would be embarrassing.
Just sayin'.

here's how I back into accepting this loss-

Would I prefer Ohio to have zero losses or a small number of losses heading into the NCAA Tournament?
- I would prefer to not be undefeated.

Now that I have decided that I would prefer Ohio not go undefeated, which games am I most comfortable with them losing?
- my preference would be that any loss be on the road and to a team that has a chance to finish the season with a solid record and RPI.

Does Marshall have the potential to fit that criteria?
- yes.

Does that mean I'm happy about losing to them?
- no.

I have to agree Jeff. I didn't think they would be as good as they are already. In reality, I wasn't even sure if they'd ever be any good because I thought the head coaching hire was puzzling. It's looking up for the Herd right now.

Let's not make a Goliath out of them. If we underachieve, we may see them again at the CBI or are they a top 50 program? They scored 100 on two division two programs and 98 on Larry Hunters squad and got crushed by OSU. We have to play better defense, period.

Put in context...."got Crushed" missing a pretty potent part of their offense. A name we heard often with the ball and moving without the ball occupying defenders the other night. ....Context. Easy to get crushed when you have to adjust your entire offense for the absence of a player. I am not saying they are a Goliath but I am not going to act like we got run over or failed miserably vs wildly inferior comp either. They are a program that is rising as D'Antonio gets his system in place....and they have had it in for us the last 4 meetings. This was a benchmark game for them. They beat us by 10 in a high scoring game.

Let's not praise them, they are not a top 100 program. I hear a couple of of our guys were sick and the coach said our defensive presence was lacking. Let's grow from this and not make everybody that beats us monster's. Like i said if we underachieve, we may see them in the CBI.
