At 55-55 against Milwaukee Simmons and Campbell seemed to wake up. Simmons (12) and Campbell (4) scored 12 of the next 16 points for Bobcats. And, if I remember correctly, Campbell scored from the paint and Simmons on drives and a few jumpers. They suddenly looked like guys who were all-MAC last year.
If that carries into Saturday -- Simmons being aggressive and Campbell scoring from the paint -- we'll be fine.
That was the problem with the UWM game.....first few possessions, Campbell was a beast....the first seven points.....two post buckets....setup an open three he nailed.....then he got bored and just started hanging out at the three-point line and didn't have much interest in playing inside.
That's what been troubling about this team....they just seem to get bored and look uninterested in doing what works.....moving the ball...getting AC touches in the post....Simmons driving to the hole.
Simmons had a handful of turnovers in the 1st half because he just flat didn't value the ball like he normally does......he looked totally out of it for a large portion of that game. Didn't really come alive until that stretch you mentioned above...but other than that was out of it.
Campbell could average 30 a game if he just decided to put more emphasis on his post game and less on hanging out in the corner looking for 3ptrs. No one seems to be able to stop him in the low post when he puts in the effort. He could easily score 18 ppg in the paint....still be able to knock down a couple 3ptrs....and get to the foul line 6-8 times per game (minimum).....he just takes so many possessions off and doesn't seemed too locked in.
And when they quit moving the ball around....Dartis and Kaminski basically become useless on offense. Neither has shown the consistent ability to get to the basket. They do it from time to time....but both tend to just wait and be catch-and-shoot guys (which they are good at when the ball moves quickly around and they're open)
Block still seems somewhat lost on offense. Very indecisive when he gets ball. Not sure if he should shoot/pass/dribble....a lot of times when ball gets in his hands, the offense slows down. Not sure if it's a confidence thing (which would be a shame, cause he has good skill and decent shot)....but he just needs to be confident when he gets the ball and go (either shoot, pass or dribble...immediately)
Not sure if this is just a holiday swoon......or if the team knew once they lost to Marshall the non-conference season was pretty meaningless so they're just going thru the motions....or if this is what we've got. A team that shows flashes of brilliance when they want....and sleep-walk their way thru games when they're bored.
Interested if they drop the hammer on a below average Cleve State team Saturday....or just go thru the motions and score a 5-8 point win.
