Maybe he could dial up Jaaron Simmons and his 1 minute per game in Ann Arbor to see how to handle things?

Just trying to logic things out here, but if the "simps" are the ones who aren't holding a grudge with the guy 3 years later and moved on with their lives, then I guess that makes the folks still furious with him 3 years later the incels?

You have to assume there is more to the story, but Oats himself said it was purely about performance and winning. If that is the case, this seems like a dick move by Oats. And a dumb move even if it worked out. Sears has been there 3 years and has proven to be a consistently elite player. This would be like the Dodgers taking Ohtani out of the lineup after he struck out his first 2 at bats.

The truth is probably something like Sears did a few things that seemed to be in defiance to what coach was trying to do or what they prepared for that week and he was butthurt about it.

The good news? In today's environment he can sue for another year of eligibility due to being forced to sit for a half. Come on home Mark!

Saw this update...

"When Nate Oats put Mark Sears on the second-half bench in the LSU, the bold move was a message to the entire Alabama basketball team. If its star player can be benched for poor defensive play, any Alabama player can.

Based on practice reports, a visibly disappointed Sears from Saturday was a hard-working, enthusiastic defender in subsequent practice sessions. It appears Sears understood the message sent by Nate Oats and that his teammates did as well."

This puts a good spin on it. Perhaps benching Sears isn't the right move for the specific half he sits, but it's impact on him and the rest of the team could be much greater. I can follow this logic. I'm excited to watch this game at Miss St tonight with my Miss St bound HS Senior.

Oh good Lord. Kid doesn't play for half a basketball game and she makes it sound like he's going through some great tribulation. Get a life.

Many people in this world have actual, real trials to deal with.

He looks engaged and energetic on Defense and running the point on offense with early assists. Mom was way too prominent last year as the cameras cut to her 4 or 5 times a game. This year has been a blessing as this is the first time she was even seen. Too bad, as she is undermining the coach and the program while thinking she is helping her kid. Rarely turns out that way. Good to hear on the broadcast Oats treated him fairly and professionally as a mentor should. Also good to hear the athletes called their own meeting to talk it out amongst themselves. Looking like Mark is indeed their leader.
