February 8th we will host Appalachian State at 2:00. They will bring a decent crowd, should be fun. Other games:

Akron vs S Alabama
Ball St vs Southern Miss
BG vs Coastal Carolina
Buffalo vs Georgia St
Central vs Texas St
Eastern vs Old Dominion
Western vs Georgia Southern
Kent vs Arkansas St
Miami vs Troy
NIU vs Louisiana
Toledo vs James Madison

I believe the Sun Belt went 8-4 in the first installment, so we will have to win 8 of 12 to draw even and being at home it is more within reach than you might think.

App State just pummeled JMU by 20 last week, but also lost to Miami in its season opener by 14.

I'm glad they're doing something like this - is it weird to do it twice a season? Have we done that before and I just haven't paid enough attention?

App State has a good guard from Butler, but I don't know much about them.

No the 2 per season (home & away) is a new concept, I like it. I am not sure if I like in the middle of the conference season, I might just prefer to schedule it in the same week and play 24 games in a random week in December.

I believe they did it last year.

YEs they did, that was the first year. We went down to Arkansas St last year and gave up 100 points, came back and lost at Toledo in another high scoring game, then ripped off 7 straight wins behind great defense.

I like it. A look at someone new in the heart of basketball season every other year. Definitely has that *Bracketbuster feel. It also is our only guarantee Saturday home game with students on campus in January/February/March.

*One more plea for someone in the athletic department, if you're reading, to please post the full 2008 George Mason game on YouTube if you are able. It was the most exciting game in the Convo this side of the millenium and it needs to be relived.

That George Mason game was the loudest I’ve ever heard the Convo.

The Miami game where they retired Trent's jersey was electric.

College basketball desperately needs to bring back the bracket buster games.

Leon Williams will forever be remembered as Ohio's greatest shooter. Took and made his only career three pointer in that game.

A fadeaway swish at the shot clock buzzer, at that!

Right now Torvik says Bobcats by 3 with a 62% chance of winning.

They also beat Texas State by holding Pope to ten points and three rebounds unlike the 24/10 double double he had against us which cost us the game. 😒

I'll add one more to the discussion: 2012-13 when Ohio and Akron were both 14-2 playing on a weeknight in Athens. 9-10k in the building, overtime game. Convo was shaking that night. For me, those two years were my favorite years. We'll never see talent like DJ, Walt and Nick on the same Ohio team again, just because of NIL.

Bracketbuster Saturday was my personal favorite game of the year back in those days. National attention on mid-major campuses was so much fun. Big atmosphere and vibe on campus that day too!
