I was impressed by the very high level of and consistent energy from game start to finish. Kept rebounds close, we had very low turnovers.

Ssshhhhh

I called him #TheUpgrade after 3 games pointing out the differences from the previous two years and I got laughed at. Even Stevie Wonder could see what you are talking about early in the season.
Laughed at? My man, we were all extremely uncomfortable and called a BA.com meeting to vote on whether we needed to call the Czech authorities to make sure you weren't living in the bushes outside of Wiz's apartment.

He's gone. Move on.
Why is it so uncomfortable to point out the differences between #TheUpgrade and what we had previously? Didn’t you go on record last game and say you don’t understand why people were wanting Elliott to get more minutes? Well, you know what Elliott did tonight? He had the biggest play of the game with the steal and one-handed slam. That one play changed all momentum. You can discuss that at your next BA.com meeting.
Hahaha. I love to hear from guys who never played ball. You talked about another post not aging well apparently relative to this and Mitchell. Mitchell's 12 pts on 72% FG, 4 steals and 3 assists trump a single dunk for Elliott's only points.
Wrong again. People were saying that Elliott should get a few more minutes than what he was getting. BLSOS said Ellliott shouldn’t get minutes against better competition. Nobody said that Elliott take a majority of Reef’s minutes. I even said Boals could find a way to squeeze some of Elmore’s minutes for Elliott too. I said between James/Reef there should be a few more minutes for Elliott as well….especially if one of them (James/Reef) is struggling.

I even said it was great to see Reef make shots at end of NIU game and hopefully that would get him going offensively. Guess what? It did and he carried it over to his great game against Ball State.
You're flailing, my man.

First things first, Elliot averages 9 minutes a game this season. Last night he played 8. So you're using a game where he played less than his average as evidence that he's earning more minutes.

Next, I responded to a post from someone saying Boals should threaten to bench Reef for Elliot. Here's the exact quote:

Not just people suggesting that Elliot "should get a few more minutes than he was getting."

I think benching Reef would be bad idea, and that Reef is currently a better player by quite a bit. I didn't say Elliot shouldn't ever play and I still feel like critical minutes should go to Reef and not Elliot. And thankfully, Boals agrees with me. Reef had his best game of the season last night. It's very, very unclear to me how that's evidence that my incredibly controversial take of "key 5th year senior and best defensive player should get crunch time minutes over Elliot" hasn't aged well.

So, how about we just skip this desperate attempt to deflect from how obviously weird you are about Wiz? You have a track record of obsessing over things like this, and I'll feel really bad if you start stalking Elliot now, instead. #stopstalkingteenageboys

I thought Reef looked good tonight. Getting closer to his old self. What I really love was the defense and attitude (moxy) he brought. Walking into Ball St's huddle when #2 fouled out and having words with the coach. The refs were blowing their whistle and Reef seemed to take it upon himself the break up the party. He can get under the skin of the other team. Last night he seemed to do that. I also want to see Elliot in more too. Great problem to have.

Nice comfortable win despite Ball State hitting from 3 tonight. I kept waiting for them to get within 1 score but we kept getting a bucket when we needed to keep that 8-12 point lead before finally pulling away. Solid student crowd back for winter semester.

Did someone say Jason Preston was the color guy? How did he do? Thats pretty cool.

AJ Clayton goes from 9 for 10 from 3 to 0 for 2...go figure. Ball State keyed in on it and kudos to Ohio for adjusting just fine. Hadaway 3 for 5 from 3 shocked me, I just hope it doesn't result in 0 for 6 Friday night.

JP a great night driving to the hoop and finishing and some nice dishes. Outside shot still not there, down to 28% on the season from 3. Sheldon's 3 point shot has also been off this season but it was nice for him to finally get a clean swish in the 2nd half, hopefully that gets him going.

AJ Brown was the MVP of the 1st half, then barely played the 2nd. I thought that was weird. I wonder if Boals has some of this stuff planned out pre-game based on matchups, rotations, etc and won't let on court performance change it. All due respect to EJ4, bottom line is AJB has been shooting quite well this year and EJ4 has not. Defensively I see them equal. I'm ready to see AJB at 30 per guy, Reef starting and near 30 per game and Elmore drop down to 20ish.

11 steals to their 1 was the big difference. Had great energy all night as others have said. Moving the ball well and playing with confidence. Very excited for Friday night, tempted to make the trip north.

I saw that too, was pretty funny. BSU tried to squeeze in a little meeting during the however many seconds they are allowed to secure a substitute for the foul out. Being not an official timeout and therefore Reef is free to stand anywhere on the court, he chose to stand right in the team conference. Brilliant move I hadn't seen before.

I need to apologize. It is a goal of mine to be positive and not criticize individuals who are all trying their hardest to succeed. My intent was to praise Searles efforts. He seems to be improving each time out.

Nowhere in my post in the thread where this is being discussed did I say bench Reef. Below is what I said:

“There is a spot for Elliott in this rotation where he can get minutes for Mitchell and Elmore. The kid can rebound and he’s smooth. I’m hoping today shows Boals and he can squeeze in minutes for Elliott to spell Reef and Elmore.”

And if I had to put my money on it, I bet you Shabamon was being sarcastic with his take on Reef. As for what is truly weird, check your hashtag in your previous post here. That is beyond weird for you to type that, let alone post it. But you be you.

Wasn't Sparks hobbled by an injury in prior games for BSU? Perhaps he cannot yet move like PS 1.0 ?

Preston was very very good on color. There are other media/J-school guys we have occasionally put on the mic when the main team isn't available over the years and I thought Jason surpassed many of those. He was poised, prepared, and insightful. He was making a point about defending pick and roll just before Vic got his dunk and he seamlessly backed off so Marty could call the play.

The AJB minutes are puzzling. 11.4 ppg on just 24 minutes and shooting over 43% from three. I feel like quietly he's our deadliest option on offense. I'm sorry to put this in the universe, but might he still not be 100% from the shoulder recovery? No one else on the team I wanted shooting the potential game winning three vs MTSU.

Let me clarify my Elliott/Mitchell comment. It was less about playing Elijah and more about finding a way to motivate Shereef. The turnovers vs Buffalo and NIU were careless and unbecoming of a fifth year veteran. I was watching a special once on the Ohio State natty team under Tressel and he did the same with Maurice Clarett. Started the first few drives of a game slow and Tressel basically said 'get it going or I'm sticking with someone else.'

If I remember right, Sparks came to Ball State out of high school overweight (50 lbs overweight? > 50?) but lost about that much before his freshman season. Appears that he's gained a lot of that weight back since returning from IU.

BALLS brought in a JUCO sharp-shooter who is killing it, #1 Hill, and Sparks is always a problem.

I think we're starting to figure it out a bit having won 7 of the last 8, so I'm feeling confident, I'm sure the team is as well. We're in a good spot heading into the meat of the schedule.

Secure the W at home. Eyes turn to Akron. Friday night game at the JAR. Should be rowdy.
W secured.

Akron beat Toledo.

11-5 v 10-6 on Friday.

Should be a hell of a game.

BTW the foul + technical on Hadaway sequence was complete crap. Pearson stumbles over his feet while Hadaway was legal enough standing his ground. Hadaway reacts but turns away from court and gets whacked. Must have said a magic word loud enough. Otherwise that's a bit soft.

Come March, those 16 min could be massive. Might be the difference in a do or die situation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure some of you will, but wasn't the BSU game the first time Elliot got significant minutes in a game where it wasn't garbage time, or close to it. Last night it appeared to me that he played during some crucial minutes where BSU could have made a run. I thought with the exception of one play, he looked quite good. Perhaps, he's been looking better in practice and the old coach knew what he was doing in holding me back until now.

I am starting to believe that Captain Chaos has developed a reputation with the refs. Love the energy and he got a bad break here, but this isn't his first technical foul. He just needs to be careful that's he's not a marked man by the refs going into every game. He's going to lose 50/50 calls that way.

Interesting because the same thing happened to him in the Bahamas last year against Brown. He was yelling at himself and the ref thought he was yelling at him and the ref gave him a “T”. Again…you develop a reputation for complaining a lot and you develop a not so friendly relationship with refs.

With all that said, you love Chaos energy and he's been on fire last three games. I'm sure Boals has had talks with him about lowering the temperature with the guys/gals who carry the whistle.
