If we truly have turned the corner, we win this game. Have to win road games to make us all believe this team is special.

Does "A game we gotta win if we're serious" apply to this game?

I think that's a "I just like to hear myself talk but don't have anything really useful to say" sort of thing. Which fits.

Buffalo got a nice road win at EMU today. Quite a contrast to the blowout they suffered at Toledo. I wonder which Bulls team we'll face.

+1. No part of this one is must win. Unless I'm crazy, the math is simple: defend home court, split or better on the road.

This isn't "must win" but we certainly need to have a good showing. If we are serious contenders this is a combustible team that we have to make a statement against..whether it's from a physicality standpoint or hitting shots in their faces. We have to beat Kron at least once and pick up a few road wins this year. We can do it..it's just a matter of how we truly have evolved as a defense. I felt like last year's MAC Tourney game came down to depth. We went 6 deep and they went 9 deep. We have four legit bench guys this year and I think we will match up physically with Carter and Culver joining the fray.

Maybe I need to clarify: I made that comment with tongue firmly planted in cheek. It's a quote (thus the quotation marks) from the Ohio v. Kent thread. The original post was not made by me, but by one of BA's esteemed experts on college sports.

I thought that was the case, mbin. The posts following yours, however, left me wondering if they picked up on the sarcasm.

Bobcats need a couple road wins to show they are the type of team that can finish in one of the top seeds in the MAC. Everybody expects us to do very well at home. The question is this a 11-7 or 10-8 type team vs a team that wins 12 or more games in league play. Ohio has had some good teams and some great teams. So far far we look good, but haven't seen great which means winning on the road in league play. Its also is the difference between reaching the MAC semis and reaching the title game. Lots of Ohio teams reach the MAC semis. The great teams reached the MAC title game. Some teams were not great until late February or March. Hope we peak at the right time. We got lots of experience with Campbell, Kaminski and Simmons. They stay healthy we got a shot.

I even like our experience with our younger guys. Darty and Block played in every game as freshmen and not only played but did well. Laster is a 3-year player as he also started as a freshman at times out of necessity. Even Doug Taylor got a nice amount of minutes by year's end last year. I feel like we have 7 experienced players and two freshmen who sometimes look too energetic but certainly not scared or hesitant. I actually think Carter is going to turn in a 20 point game against one of these unsuspecting MAC teams.

Just like the Kent game, rebounding has to be a focus for this game... We were beat soundly last time around on the boards by Buffalo (MAC Semi's) and, this past game, Buffalo held JT III to 9 boards. We board well and shoot even reasonably well, we win... Somebody keep a body on Massinburg!

So by that logic (winning road games, reaching MAC title game), Jim Christian had one really good year. (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Hard to guess on this one because who knows which Buffalo team will show up. And for that matter, which Bobcat team will show up. The team that trounced Kent, or the team that lost at WKU? Which Buffalo team? The team that beat a solid EMU team on the road or the one who lost to Bobby Mo and got wholloped by Toledo?

I would certainly classify that one year with Christian as a really good year. MAC regular season co-champs....14-2 in the league. NIT berth. Yup. I'd take that most years.

The MAC title game blowout was tough to stomach (along with 3 Ls to Kron)....but that team came up 20 minutes short of playing in the NCAA tourney back-to-back years.

If Saul can deliver those kind of years going forward, he'll have a long career in Athens.

(Obviously getting over the hump in the MAC Tourney would be better!)

I gotta think the loss of Bearden is hurting them right now and they're trying to still get ahold of it. They're in a vulnerable spot going into conference play like that. He opened up so much more for their offense.

I'm glad Ohio is playing them on the road somewhat early on in the season because I think they're gonna be a lot better in late February and March.

As a team it seems like they just rebound like a pack of wolves: not great individually but a group of decent ones. They've got six guys averaging close to or over four rebounds per game, and eight who get almost three or more a game.

Obviously, they like to push the envelope. They are 39th in adjusted tempo according to KenPom.

Agreed. That was a special year despite the end of season disappointment. That team was fantastically entertaining.

Agree on being glad we're going to UB early in the year. If last year is an indicator, they'll get better by late February.

If Saul has that kind of success he won't be here long.

Saul's had a treasure chest with a few silver coins and JC had a treasure chest loaded with gold coins.
JC would have been in Athens a few years longer if he started with a 10 win team.

Related to tonights game, I feel that we will assert ourselves in the conference by stunning the Bulls at home.

Heck, I would rather lose tonight than up Cleveland.

I'd rather see OUr guys relegate the Bulls to having to host a home conference tournament game by winning tonight (okay getting them closer to that by winning tonight), making it tougher for them to even get to Fri/Sat in Cleveland.
