Hot take: I think Ohio would've been okay under Christian. Not where it is now, but okay. Like TOS tepid okay.
Exactly where is this team now?
Auburn must be really, really bad. Time for Bruce Pearl to cheat again. I'm sure he's calling J Simmons as I type this.

Comparing the two teams, 2012 and 2016-17, to me is just silly. Everything about the two is different.

One thing I'll agree with is that every team would be better by having a player like Walt, and a bench player like Ric.

With a much more warm, fuzzy coach.

Maybe JC will be competing for the same jobs this offseason that at least one of our other ex-coaches will be vying for. It amazes me how so many people take this stuff personally.

MUCH, much more warm, fuzzy coach. The most likeable guy we've had in all of my years as a Bobcat. And I positively loved Coach Groce.

Did you see the Bracket Buster ESPN game vs Belmont? Rick Byrd from Belmont made JC look like he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

I preferred to think of Walt as a Leatherman multi-tool. He could do just about everything well and could save your day in many ways.

Until he quit in the NIT game at Denver.

On earth. With a 7-2 record. And a roster that is built to make this flippant post look dumb in three months.

But keep looking at your feet and telling me what's up the road two miles.

Dude was one made FT away against UNC from Bobcat immortality. Watched the final 10 minutes of the sweet 16 game the other day on YouTube. I was at the game and forgot how freaking Jon Henson made a couple of clutch jumpers. That game still hurts....had it. Should have been freaking Elite 8. Crazy to think about.

Walt was easily one of my favorite players I have ever seen in the green and white. I just hated the way it ended. How can one of the best players on your roster not even ATTEMPT a FG? We lose narrowly to a Denver team in the NIT and Walt essentially didn't show up. I understand not being super excited for the NIT after a Sweet 16 run, but when it's potentially your last game in the uniform, make an effort. It was like a really good movie with the last 5 minutes of the ending being a tremendous let-down.

Walt = MAC Tourney Champs and Sweet 16. That is all.

(Can we get Allen Iverson to go off on the NIT like practice?... NIT? Are we talking NIT?. Psssshaaaaw...Come on man....)

Walt missed that Free Throw that would have won the UNC game too

Maybe, maybe not. Had he made that free throw, UNC would have had to make a basket and there was plenty of time to do that (about 9 seconds I think). As it was, if they make, they win, if they miss, it's OT. Of course they didn't even get off a shot and we got stomped in OT. Great game nonetheless and a great time in St. Louis.

I love how everyone talks about Walt's missed free throw as the most important play of that game. Least we forget his defense on Harrison Barnes on the other end that saved the day and sent it to OT...

...the biggest gaff on the offensive end that night was when Ohio had just taken a 4 point lead and DJ got a steal and had a one-on-one with Henson on the other end. Tried to make an easy play look really difficult by going for a reverse layup and Henson blocked him, where if he had gone straight up he probably could have gotten a foul call. I get he was trying to fake Henson out by going under, but he didn't need to.

If I were in his situation, I probably would have done something even worse, so I can't complain too much.

Offut scored 26 points against Carolina in the sweet 16. But yeah, lets complain about him.

I was curious if JC would ever get the train rolling at BC. He recruited well, and his X's and O's weren't horrific. The problem I thought he was going to have was financial commitment and time from Boston College. But with Bates still running the show, he will have a shot to do what he needs to do. What he did right was demote Wu and got a solid recruiter for the East Coast. Figured especially that Christian was going to be a 4 year process kind of coach and is beginning to show through some serious progress.
