GUT PUNCH!

Someone said that on BA years ago (Bobcat Love perhaps?) and I thought it was a very adept way of describing our athletic fates.

No matter how much success we have...you just know it's coming. It is so incredibly frustrating through the years, both football and basketball. My advice is to enjoy the good moments when you can - because moments like this just flat out suck.

I'll be a fan until the day I die, but that doesn't make it easy. Needless to say, I'm tired of the gut punches!

Here's to finding a way to get things done without Tony...

MAC Tournament. It's the only thing that matters, the regular season simply boils down to seeding, that's all. No one wants to face Ohio in the MACT.

Fair enough fellow Cat fan. It is extremely difficult to find a lot of positives from this debacle. When you have a lead of 21 pts. and still find a way to lose by 5, it amazes me. Moreso, it very much dissapoints me.
Good teams don't do this. Hungry teams don't do this. It's very sad and hard to watch ( I typically watch every game either in person or on ESPN 3). I was expecting much better during a game we needed and should have won.
By tournament time, we may be haunted by this loss.
Regardless, us hardcores will have to trust Coach Saul as he knows more about his team than we could imagine.
Let's get Akron on Saturday.

missed the game live so watched the replay without knowing the final score. Stopped at halftime because was bored without how bad we were beating them. Went to see final score... oof. Not what I expected.

We're 2-4 without Tony and 1 of those wins was against BG without 3 starters. I don't think Ohio is feared as much now because of those results. They know they can score inside on Ohio.

Is Saulball becoming the new Solichball? In many ways I see a parallel. Both are waiting on scoreboards and waiting on a recruiting upgrade.

So we lose the MAC title game in football and basketball this year. A new first for the university.

I ask this only partially tongue-in-cheek, does Frank have a few football players he could lend Saul? I bet Javon Hagan could play some good defense, even if he's a bit small. How about Troy Mangen clogging up the middle on the zone?

I buy that. Both are in the "good enough to keep your interest" yet "never great enough to produce legitimate excitement" category. Have been for years.

One of my favorite quotes every winter on BA. We usually don't start seeing this claim until February, but OhioBobcat got it in a couple of hours before the end of January. Well done.

How many times does it need to be repeated on both broadcast and on this board? THE DEFENSE IS THE BEST IN THE MAC. No football player will provide any help with that.

Now, was defense the problem last night? Absolutely.

Last night's loss was completely crap.

If I am looking at the MAC standings correctly we would be a fourth seed in the MAC Tournament as of today; not bad considering Tony being out and giving away three conference games to EMU, Toledo, and WMU. Two of those games being in the round house.

Akron poses a great opportunity on Saturday. If we split with Akron I think we will be ok. Akron was in dog fights in their last two games with Buf. and NI two teams we beat. Actually I think we were the last team they beat by more than ten. Beating the premiere team in the conference might get us back to our winning ways in the Convo.

Saturday we will find out of we are a good team that hasn't been able to close out games or we will find out that we are a 500 MAC team that will be lucky to buy a ticket to one of the pay to play tournaments.

Win at home on Saturday and I will believe again.

Well, you know, Ohio currently IS the 4-seed: Officially halfway through MAC men's basketball conference play! If the season ended today, the tournament would look like this. https://twitter.com/hashtag/MACtion?src=hash https://t.co/TJ3d0uRk3L&mdash ; Jeremy Guy (@JGuyMAC) https://twitter.com/JGuyMAC/status/826630287534723072
Yes, but there's only one game separating the #4 with the #9 seed with a lot of games to play...

Are we talking recent years, or the last thirty?

Ohio has won the MAC Tournament 3 times and played in in title game 4 times since 2005, and has won it 6 times total which is the second most amount of any MAC school. Ohio has also won the MAC Tournament as the #9 seed, which was by far the lowest team to ever win the tournament. Ohio did so by winning an opening round game - on the road by the way - then beat the #1, #2 and #4 seeds en route to the title. We may never ever see that kind of a run, especially by a low seeded team like that, ever again. Hence, why the regular season means little and why no one wants to play Ohio in the MAC Tournament. Period.

This is the moral victory that I needed, we will go to Cleveland. Will we win a close game? Will we close out a worst seeded team? Or will we lose down the stretch with Dartis and Carter scoring 15 and drawing a moral for next year saying the MAC teams should be on notice for next year. Let's get great, let's execute and leave it all on the floor. Let's go Cats.

That is kind of like saying that back in college, I was always able to score well at the Pub, so 12 years later, I should have the same result. It doesn't work that way, believe me.
