In today's streaming world you really don't need Cable or Satellite to watch sports, actually lots more streaming then on them. Two that I recommend are Kodi formerly XBMC and ACE player. With Kodi get the Sports Devil app installed and you can watch from many sources. Not to mention all the movies and tv shows that stream free. You can do it on a laptop or you can buy a smart box, like Minix

May be others, if you know some good ones let us know.

I have been streaming with a skystreamX for awhile. Now that I Am getting the hang of it I should be able to get the latest from skystream and elite mods and get rid of directv. Sports Devil seems to be most stable on KODI . With that and Chromecast I'm pretty good. My son in Indy has his entire house set up with KOdI through raspberry pi units and older computers that people are trashing. It's a new world.

So I like to watch TV on my TV. All i need are a few sports channels (one's where I might see OU), channels that will let me watch the major golf tournaments, the Kentucky Derby, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, definitely PBS and be able to stream Netflix and Amazon.

What do I need to get/do because I'm tired of paying for 9 million cable channels that I don't use?

As a proud Ohio TCOM grad i cannot in good conscience stay silent when it comes to Kodi usage.

Just say no.

I hope it goes the way of napster...

Of course you want to watch on your TV, so do we all. When I mentioned Laptop, I only meant I use the laptop as the host, with an HDMI cord to the big screen. I've got a Minix neo u1 on it's way from China to eliminate using the laptop. It comes proloaded with Kodi. You could also use u'r smartphone and chromecast it to the TV.

Just google Kodi and investigate this great software. I'm watching the OU/Akron game now and I must say the Bobcats are alive tonight. Go Cats

Kodi itself is completely legal, but with open source software there are lots of developers pushing the limits.

Direct TV Now is a brand new streaming service, approximately 120 channels for about $35 per month.

Just an FYI for those of you who still like to listen to the radio broadcast while possibly watching the game via streaming/tv. If you own an Amazon "Alexa" you can hear the games as well as the Thursday evening call-in shows on this device. Simply ask your Alexa to "play WXTQ" or "play Power 105" and you can listen to Russ Eisenstein and Rob Cornelius for the Bobcat broadcasts. I know often times the ESPN3 announcers are pathetic (or not even in the arena) and I prefer to hear Russ and Rob do their thing. It's also good since I live outside of the Athens area to be able to listen to the coach's call-in shows on Thursday evening.

Still using TWC basic internet. I think I need to upgrade for better speed and surfing. It's fine now, but there is lag every so often.

Good point, still attached for internet. But I have a Verizon "mifi" for work that I have experimented with at home. It will handle the load of 6 devices(Roku, printer, iPads, etc) and the cost is about $40/month vs. $59/month for ATT internet. And it is the size of a deck of cards, so you can travel with it, etc.

That's pretty much what I thought of when I started hearing about it. Though I haven't found much to describe it really clearly, it really seems like only a matter of time before it goes to court and is stopped. Anyone care to summarize just how Kodi works, what you pay for it, and what you can get with it?

I use Kodi with my Fire Stick as well. I would *highly* suggest getting the official ESPN 3 Kodi App. You have to activate it, but the quality and frame rate is *much* better than the native Fire Stick ESPN app.

The difference with Kodi, is that you are NOT downloading anything, you are streaming.

My only issue with Kodi is finding some programming, definitely not like just changing your channel.
