Not sure we don't match up player for player with them. I agree that Akron is going to be tough for us at the JAR. They've been playing well but theyre not invincible. They've had several close games with teams.

Sadly, i dont know squat about akron until i see them tonight and get refamiliarized with their roster.

Im looking forward to see how Jaaron bounces back and if Mr Carter builds on eastern progress.

This.

This team lacks the ability to get stops and easy buckets (unless we're unconscious from 3) to win on the road. Let alone against Akron. Let alone without Campbell.

Anything is possible (see us getting unconscious from 3) - but the overwhelming probability is this is a 15-20 point loss.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, but to me, Ohio looks like the better team. Playing without its best player and only down three on the road at the half. I think Ohio is better than Akron win or lose this game.

Agreed and a seven minute scoring drought to boot.

Shame that Akron is going to beat us by thirty tonight.

Cue the music they play on Price is Right when they lose...

Lot of season left but just like the Zips losing to the Bobcats in football, you can count on a loss most the time at Akron. 3-0 to 3-2. Need to circle the wagons and get back to winning.

Not being overly emotional as I've thought this all year and while I haven't posted much, when I do I've hinted at this when I do comment. Tonight was a vivid illustration of Athleticism vs. Saul Ball. If you don't feel it was "athletic" because I. Johnson is a tank, then it's Physical vs. Finesse. When Finesse is hot, you'll have fun, but otherwise you're going to get punched in the gut, especially by the likes of Akron. What scares me is that I look at the recruiting board and see more guys that like look like Block & Carter and fewer guys that look like they can run and bang with Akron types.
Russ commented often as I listened on the radio the first half that they always seem to find these really athletic hybrid/long/inside-out type guys all the time and the TV announcers when I got home for the 2H did as well. If it wasn't obvious in the past, it was vs. EMU and it was tonight. Tony certainly would've helped, but Tony is not your prototypical physical 5 that can make up for the rest of the roster.

Also during the EMU and again tonight, seeing Carter & Kamminski totally overmatched in the post, I commend Saul for sticking to a straight up man-to-man and watching them get run over. No variety, nothing to mix it up, just watch it happen.
Every coach and team has to have a personality and I respect Saul-Ball. If it's all clicking in March, it'll be a blast and I'll celebrate with everyone. But I certainly do hope we recruit a few guys that can go to the hole and score in a manner other than jumpers. The last 5 minutes of the EMU game and the 2H tonight are two vivid illustrations of what life's like when athletic/physical look like when you're only option is finesse/outside shooting and the shots aren't falling.

Stats weren't favorable but I really like that Carter kid's moxie. He sure didn't back down tonite. Was Block hurt in the 2nd half?

I was thinking this same thing. How much run do you think Laster, Taylor and even Block would get if they played for Akron. Cheatham, Ivey, Olojakpoke - those guys are athletes. I hope Saul is watching. Also I think this is the year Akron finally wins a NCAA tournament game.

You can say it. You want black players.

I'm not saying that in an accusatory way. I get what you're saying. But I don't think the athlete way always wins in the end. I don't want athletes at the expense of basketball skills. If you give me the choice between Jason Carter or JD Weatherspoon, I'm taking Carter 100% of the time.

You know what kind of player would be perfect for Saul's team? Those power guards that used be all over the MAC. Guys like Antonio Ballard, Chris Singletary, Calvin Betts, etc.

Luckily, I didn't. As I saw the first half scores update, I lamented how I was missing a pretty good ballgame. After that, well...

It looked like Block hurt his left shoulder. He didn't play much after that play happened.

After seeing the game tonight in person, I'm convinced that Akron, EMU, and Buffalo are all much more athletic than we are. We were getting beat off the dribble way too much. It was reminiscent of the Buffalo game in the tournament last year.

Home from the JAR.

I do not think this is one of Akron's better teams having watched them for so many games of the Dambrot era. They were sloppy and a 40 minute effort by the Bobcats may have kept this real close--too many unforced errors by the Cats. Akron got it going for a few minutes by attacking the hoop but for long periods the Zips were throwing up some prayers and they happened to find net.

What bugged me most was 2 or 3 buckets by Akron when BigDog was stopped about 8 ft from the hoop by the Bobcat manning him--no double team and then some Bobcat must have been enjoying watching his teammate stop BigDog only to forget about his own man and an easy dump under the basket to a WIDE OPEN Zip and a few easy buckets made!

Khan Cheatum ate his man for breakfast, lunch and dinner, desert and a night cap or two. Clearly the MAC POY so far in the young season as far as the Bobcats games played. Who has been better for us or against us?

Pretty good Bobcat Fan turnout.

Hah! Nailed it.

I'm officially a Jason Carter fan. Even in this one, he shows flashes of brilliance.

Man, Block hurt his shoulder against EMU -- in the second half of that game you could see him grab/rub it several times. I didn't like seeing him not play much in second half tonight. He's one of few agressive guys we've got.

Is it just me, or do teams get extra amped against Ohio?
