if ou wants to get their b ball program on the success track they need to get out of one bid mac. good conferences for ou to get would be conference usa, big east, American or maybe atlantic ten. all of these have more than one bid and ou could be competitive in any of them

If you think CUSA would be a better bball conference for Ohio than the MAC then the 2000 in your name must be a reference to the last time you paid attention to college sports.

Give me 1 example of a time when Ohio deserved an at-large bid but didn't receive one because they were in the MAC.

Conferences don't earn at-large bids, teams do.

Since we are on the topic of making some moves to help the program the X-Factor in my opinion is facilities. One thing that is in the works or planned is if bumping up the weight room to 20,000 sq.ft. Carin is decent but a double decker weight room has more of a wow factor. It's not that much to expand the weight room to that size, 2-3 million but a big recruiting impact. That and trying to get 2 good non-conference names into the Convo would help.

Here's the top 4 seeds in the 1995 MAC Tournament-

#1 Miami - lost semifinal game vs #4 Ball St. Earned AT-LARGE bid.
#2 Ohio - lost semifinal game vs #3 EMU. Earned NIT bid.
#3 EMU - lost final game to #4 Ball St. Earned NIT bid.
#4 Ball St - won championship. Earned auto-bid.

Ohio wasn't denied an at-large bid in 1995 because the MAC was "a one bid league" (it wasn't), Ohio didn't earn an at-large bid because they lost to Miami twice.

bad choice of years to try to prove your point.

We have one regular season CO-CHAMPIONSHIP since 1994 and none outright. Yeah, it's the MAC holding us back from our glory.

The at-large bid went up in smoke the second Jeff Boals went down. We were 15-4 prior to the injury and finished the season 9-6, lost to Miami twice and didn't even make the MAC championship game.

Remember sitting in my bedroom in HS listening to that fateful EMU game on the radio like it was yesterday. Gut wrenching.

I think we should go for:

The Midwest Collegiate Conference

or

The Mid Continent Conference

or to cater to our western alums

The WAC!

First of all, you have to be ASKED to join a conference. Haven't heard of any invites coming in from any other conference, let alone these.

Second, two of the four conferences you mentioned don't have D1A football programs. Since the MAC is now only interested in all-sports membership and being an independent is just plain folly, you'd essentially kill the football program. Haven't heard any other conferences clamoring to have us join for football, either.

Third, thanks for the chuckle. I needed one today.

I agree with you - related to basketball, getting two better games in The Convo would be useful. The scoreboard project - done right, and paired with simple touches on the inside of the concourses, etc., would transform the arena from good to great.

Weight room, for basketball, wouldn't really mean as much as a practice facility for basketball that included a weight room. That, of course, is years and years away if ever.

Meigs County Gold, or SE Ohio shine. There are others who have some on this board based on some prior posts. ;)

In all seriousness though I would like the MAC to add Western Kentucky. That would be one thing I'd like done. Not sure who you add for the 2nd team, since most of the ones I'd really want (Cincy, Marshall) have a bigger head than required for the conference. And Y-Town State makes zero sense due to the NE Ohio recruiting territory being absurdly overflooded. Just throwing it out there....
