He's gotta be the frontrunner for MAC POY.

He is impressive.

I saw a game where he sat a lot of minutes in crucial time. The tandem is what makes them go. Rayson is a 5'9 sparkplug that keeps the offense running. Ranked 3rd in the country in %of minutes played I think a lot of Keene's ability to produce is helped by Rayson's ability to move the ball downhill. Keene is a talent no doubt and the attention you have to give to Rayson makes him better.

This will be an interesting vote. The MAC doesn't usually give the award to a player on a team that has a losing record. CMU's got some work to do to make that happen.

Maybe Keno should get thrown out of every game.

Seems to have some range on his jumper.

Scoring 26 in a row seems to be out of the norm.

Snoopy got it in 89 and Jamerson in 90.

Yep, and they are the exceptions that prove the rule since they were the last two. It's been 27 years since the last one.

If Simmons carries this team on his back the rest of the way like he did at N. Illinois, then #2 will win it.

Averaging 30 points a game, best in the nation by almost 6 points. If that holds, I don't think it will matter if CMU ends up terrible, they'll give him the award. And then to make matters crazier, his teammate Braylon Rayson is averaging almost 20 points per game, 50th in the nation.

But I'm just not sold. When you have 2 players that AVERAGE 50 per night, how can you be so unimpressive? The 2 take 56% of the team's shots. That doesn't seem smart, especially given Rayson's effective FG % is worse than every single player on Ohio except Simmons. Keene has almost as many turnovers as assists and offers very little in the way of steals/blocks/rebounds. Clearly these 2 play almost every minute and the result is one of the worst defenses in the country.

I don't doubt he is a good player but my impression is his scoring ability overrates him as an overall player.

Nope, nada, no way at all. I liked his chances going in to the season but he has dug himself too much of a hole. I love the guy and still believe in him but you can't sugarcoat it, he has had a dreadful year. The hottest of hot streaks could not put him over the top.

That's why I said carry the team on his back. He'd have to average 20 PPG and 7 assists the rest of the way, plus a win over Akron to be considered.

I don't know about that. If Central finishes 6-12 (their current pace) and Jaaron does carry us to the regular season title while putting up 20 and 7 I can easily see him getting it. He's not anywhere near the award right now but there is still 2/3 of the conference season yet to be played. Coming off that 50 point game Keene is the obvious favorite but before that game I would have bet that Isaiah Johnson was as much of a favorite as he was.

If he leads the nation in scoring, it would be the second time for a MAC player to ever do it (Howard Komives of BG had 36.7 ppg in 1964-1965). Not giving him POY would rank among the dumbest results ever for that award, and there have been some awful ones.

nobody will want to face CMU in Cleveland, it'll be like OU 2010 all over again.

It would be hard for him not to be player of the year, no matter how bad his team, if he leads the nation in scoring and does so by a good margin. So long as his shooting numbers are decent. So far they are pretty efficient.
