Jason played darn'd good today, showed some aggressiveness and really plays stronger than he looks. He's not afraid that's for sure. And his shooting touch will come around. Also notice he wants the ball-that's a good sign.
But today's game didn't have much energy from our guards and let's face it they run the offense. They need to take charge. Hope Tony's not hurt bad!
We need you man!

Carter reminds me a little of Evan Bradds at Belmont. He started out as an 8ppg player and now as a senior is around 21ppg and was #1 in the nation last season in FG%

We need more of what this kid brings to the floor. Aside from Carter & Gavin Block we're not tough enough right now to win an ugly type game like yesterday. Defense is all about toughness and we don't have it right now.

I still remember Saul telling us in Cincy on the Bobcat Caravan that oppenents will know they played against Carter after games. A physical presence.

We just gave up 53 points to a team that had scored 80+ in four of their past five games (and 90 points six times this season so far). We are the #1 defensive team in the MAC and only two teams play a faster tempo than us. I must be watching a different game than you because especially lately we've been really good on the defensive end.

KenPom.com has Ohio's defense as 34th in the nation. On an adjusted for opponent basis, they are only allowing 94.3 points per 100 possessions. Since Pomeroy started publishing this stat in 2002, only the 2012 Ohio team is even in the same ballpark defensively. That 2012 team finished 35th in the nation giving up an adjusted 92.0 points/100.

It's really the offense that has been struggling. It's ranked just 208, scoring an adjusted 100.8 points per 100 possessions per 100. Ohio's 3-point shooting percentage is exactly the same from a year ago at 38.3%. But 2-point percentage has declined dramatically. They shot 52.3% on 2's last year (47th in the country) but this year are just 47.6% (226th).

Simmons' 2-point percentage has dropped from 48.3% to 41.7% year-over-year. Kaminsky, although he doesn't shoot many 2's, is down from 44.0% to 34.9%. Dartis doesn't shoot many 2's but he's down from 50% to 35.5%. And, of course, they lost Treg Setty who shot 52.4% on 227 2-point attempts last year.

I think Gareri coming in next year is going to be similar to Jason which will be awesome to have...two stretch 4s who can also mix it up inside. And I think BVP will be similar as well but more perimeter oriented.

The type of toughness I'm talking about was just displayed by Doug Taylor. Nothing wrong with a really hard foul every now and then on a guard driving into the paint. Far too many times we allow guards to penetrate with no resistance whatsoever. And speaking of defense I don't know if Kenny could ever shoot well enough to make up for his lack of interest in playing defense.

If you think Kenny isn't interested in playing defense, and that there's a lack of resistance, you're watching a different team than me. They were't good last night, but it has nothing to do with being interested in playing defense. They got outplayed, and Saul & Co. need to find answers for Akron by Feb 4th, but to say they aren't interested is like saying they aren't trying, and that's false.

KK has 2 rebounds in last 3 games. He had 2 straight games with no rebounds before last night, despite being 6-8. Cheatham owned KK last night, on the perimeter and inside. Both on offense and defense. Perhaps we were watching a different game.

BVP is more similar to Carter. He is more of a bruiser and a slasher. He likes to finish with dunks, and he already is very built for a HS player.

Gareri might bring more on the interior on defense due to his length and shot blocking, but he seems like more of a finesse big man who can step out and knock down the 3. He does also have a good back-to-the-basket game, and seems to have really good footwork in the post.

I agree. If I'm Saul, I start recruiting bigs NOW. Once Tony is gone, we have Taylor and that's it. I love Jason Carter, but he needs to get stronger and he's just not big enough to really bang around down low. We need a 6'10"+ guy to take some pressure off our guards and forwards. Tony could thrive at the 4 if we had a legit center. I know Saul is much smarter than me, so hopefully he has some guys on the radar. I like Doug for sporadic minutes, but I'm not sure he can carry an entire game's workload.

Careful Bobcat1998...some on this board think DT is a 26-30 minute...double-double guy next season.
I think he can become a double-double guy by his senior year but he still has another year and a half to show something more than spot minutes. Carter was far more effective last night and it was because he is clearly "skilled."

That's what I'm talking about. Rebounding has a lot to do with toughness. Kenny is an nice offensive threat on the perimeter (at times) but he's far from a complete player. Maybe the shoulder is still an issue and we're not aware of it but he clearly has no interest in being physical on the defensive end.

Points in the paint.......where are they going to come from next season? Been saying it from day one since season started. While I love Carter, we all know he's not a banger. And DT is an 8-12 minute guy....MAX. Up to Saul and the staff to figure it out, but aren't we out of scholarships for next season? So I guess someone needs to transfer out for us to get a legit BIG for 2017-2018.
