Related to this subject, I wish they'd just pick one that people who make the most noise identify with, crank it up like crazy, and stick to it.

This relates to the audio/video upgrades being worked on, because if they don't use them right, they're just a bright, fancy $2mil brick hanging in the building. I hope, hope, hope that someone allows for making time to visit other college arenas, and maybe the Pacers/Cavs, to see how they take advantage of improved screens and sound.

For the record, I happen to like the new song this year, despite liking the Kanye song better. I just want it to be louder. This isn't the symphony, or a ballet. It needs to get LOUD to bring the energy in the building up!

How about the old Alan Parsons Project Sirius tune that was played back in the Trent years?

I'm good with that. Confession - I had to look it up:

No matter what they choose, the audio needs to be loud enough that conversation inside The Convo isn't easy. Draws the focus entirely to player intro's and getting everyone pumped up for game time.

One of the reasons the tune this year does not sound good is the friggin speakers suck - and/or some idiot does not know how to adjust the bass/mid/tenor to try to make it sound better.....

Which reminds me of the Easiest class I ever took at OHIO. I think it was Spring Qtr '78. "Consumer Electronics". A joke. Subject matter like stereo equipment and how to hook/set up. 1 credit hour. Jam packed lecture room. Average height/weight of the students in the class must been 6'4/260 lbs - I think most of the football team......

There is something to be said for this. Some college and pro teams have latched on to a song and it is a distinct part of their gameday experience.

Some that come to mind (not all are intro songs):

-Sandstorm at South Carolina
-Jump Around at Wisconsin
-Shout at Oregon
-Sweet Caroline at Boston Red Sox

Say what you want about why they play them or the quality of those songs but you can't deny they whip the crowd-especially students-into a frenzy when played. Heck a lot of times the visiting team will jump along too when Jump Around is played in Camp Randall.

Exactly. Find the music/identity that the loudest fans identify with (the students and younger alumni most likely) and do it. And stick to it. And make it I can't talk to my seat neighbor loud. If I wanted relaxation, peace & quiet, I'd go for a hike in Hocking Hills.

I would love to see almost every game day be like Ohio hosting Akron in The Convo on Feb 27, 2013. That should be the target for atmosphere for every single home game day. That game was an epic experience.

It's a blend of winning, star players, people having fun at games and coming back again and again. The atmosphere comes from music (not always the 110) that people identify with. It's not too hard to use trial and error, and surveys to see what that music is.

Music that people identify with? Now that's a tough one. In my case I walk into the arena as close to the color guard taking the floor as possible. The sound system is old and piercing and the music that is played is horrible, in my opinion anyway. If you look at those in attendance, the majority are not college students. I'm not saying play Perry Como but there are "classic" tunes that register with many more people than the currently popular stuff that they play today. Can't agree on the music, then let the 110 play more. When they're rocking the whole house is rocking.

I'm saying music that the people who make noise and don't sit on their hands identify with. Doesn't have to be hip-hop music necessarily. I'm not bashing the 110 by any stretch, but I've never understood why the "more 110" is some mantra for a better basketball atmosphere. It's not, at least not at most good basketball environments I've been in outside of Athens. There's a blend that includes band, modern popular music, and the classic tunes you refer to. I've been in UD Arena when the whole arena is doing the YMCA, for example.

As much money as I have spent on music; concerts, albums, cd's, dvd's, tapes and yes even 8 tracks back in the day, I am not a big fan of piped in music at college football and college basketball games. It seems concocted whereas as a marching band in football and a pep band in basketball sets the experience apart from the contrived professional stadium and arena experience. I was beginning to think that I was alone in this thought, until I heard Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins say the same thing about going to sporting events.

When I needed something, always went with Motley Crue's opening to Kickstart My Heart.

Personally, I love Thunderstruck, but would only use that come march for the HS Tourney's for obvious reasons with our fans.....

The chorus of this song used to be a signature OHIO song, kind of like OSU uses Hang on Sloopy.

I always kind of liked it.

So I looked up the lyric to Power. No prude but there is no way we can or should play that in the Convo - ever. Read them for yourself.

So Instead of "It's time to rock and roll in the convo!" is it now "It's time to hip and hop in the convo!!"?

Unfortunately the Smart Car was traded in on Thursday. Sad day in Athens for the original Athens County Smart Car. Fun while it lasted.

Come on, Rice Paddy Grunt, you're one of the few old enough to actually help answer the question. Best I can recall it was in the late 1970s to early 1980s period. It went on for several years.
