Our grandsons from Cincy (ages 4 and 2) attended the game yesterday. Afterwards we went home to Jackson and set up our basket inside the house. The four year old said "I'm Jaaron Simmons" and "you're Antonio and your foot is hurt so you can't play"...then later said "Antonio, the doctor made your foot better so you can play now." The two year old wanted to pass the ball to me.

During the game the four year old kept pointing to pics of our players on the program and made me tell him the details on each guy. Glad to have the little guy following in the footsteps of his grandfather's stats and paperwork obsession. He didn't say anything about the weather, though.

The two year old was also amazing in how he kept focused on the game, etc.

Gotta enjoy these days while they last!

Watching the game off DVR with my 9-year-old last night. Jason Carter steps to the free throw line and he says, "Wow, that guy's young".

Nice stories, Jeff and Ted. Thanks so much for sharing. Can't start 'em too young. I wish I could still post pictures here. I'd post one of my 2-year-old granddaughter wearing her "Born to be a Bobcat" bib. Too bad she lives in California and has yet to attend an OHIO game.

Your story resonates with me, I've seen much of the same from my boys over the years. My now 8 year old was truly obsessed with DJ Cooper for his whole career. My kids pay attention and get into the game about 100 times more in Bobcat basketball than football. Maybe it is just my kids, but I think the Convo and everything being a bit more "intimate" helps, as well as the ability to recognize/remember/identify with the players better. I hope these trips to the Convo will help build an affection for Athens that helps them avoid the evil empire and make the right choice.

I think your assessment about it being more intimate resonates for almost everyone, not just your kids. I also think that the simple fact that people can identify with the 7-10 players they see on the floor more easily than the 30+ they see on the field has a little bearing as well.

We brought one of my longest time friends, and his two boys to the Akron game Saturday. To say that they were really engaged in the game would be an understatement. The youngest, about 5 1/2, kept saying "we need another three!".

Yep - Enjoy it while you can. My son travelled with me to MANY games in his youthful days. I always like watching that Fiami vid with Washington at the line shooting FT's - can see him standing next to me with hands in prayer in front of his face each shot by Devaughn...At the post season event he got a pic w/KVK (he came up to about KVK's waist). traveled to a lot of away game MAC arenas, also to Pitt, to Looval, Wright St, etc. Trip to St Louis....that was a Lot of fun....

Now - He is a Freshman and my "contribution" level has SKYROCKETED! But they don't include offspring tuition/room/board in the member level math.....We did get a small scholarship - I always wondered if it was actually academics or they searched and knew who would be paying the biggest part of the tab....

Now that he is a Freshman. Big game vs Akron. Weekend trip to Snowshoe/WV w/new OHIO friends was more compelling.....Oh Well....
