Very intriguing Big 10 assessment Buckeye to Bobcat, would be interested in hearing your take on the MAC.
Ask and yee shall receive. I will update this tomorrow due to attending game in a bit but start to get an idea for thoughts on this.
#Saulball=-10
Although I rip our football staff for not recruiting in-state enough, Saul and Co. do a great job of tearing up the state recruiting. Great personality who fits the mold of the Bo Ryan family tree with great energy guys (Miles, McDormett) that will ultimately be running big time programs. This couldn't be a better match between coach and school. That said, finding replacement for Tony becomes highest of priorities in next two recruiting cycles and hanging onto assistants could become problem here in the next few.
PREDICTION: WINS MAC WITHIN 3 YEARS, BOLTS FOR BIGGER JOB MAYBE SOONER
Keith Dambrot: Akron=-10
A coach who has continued to do an excellent job despite our hatred for Akron. Has done a great job recruiting his region and rarely lets kids from backyard get out to other schools if he wants him. Always has a physical team but undisciplined (see off court arrests). Nonetheless, Akron would be foolish to ever push him out door.
PREDICTION: WINS A FEW MORE MAC TITLES, WILL RETIRE AT AKRON AS 2nd BEST COACH ALL TIME AT AKRON.
James Whitford: Ball State=1
Doing a solid job at a school I've never been impressed with. Seems to be hitting stride here in terms of talent and roster. Of course things can change and needs extension, but I think he will get one after winning division this year at Ball State.
Michael Huger: BGSU=1
2nd year after the previous coaching scandals, Huger still seems to be finding feet at BGSU. Will not be fired this year, despite new AD, but heat will come on him in year 3 due to AD scenario and new arena shine starting to wear off.
PREDICTION: GOES ONE MORE YEAR, THEN GETS FIRED
Nate Oats: Buffalo=1
Year two of continuing the Bobby Hurley experiment in Buffalo after winning MAC in Round 1. Seems to be getting a good grasp on recruiting, especially getting Graves out of SVSM in Akron. No need for a prediction here, still early in his legacy to decide if he will move up or not, but winning here would be nice to show that he's a good coach.
Mark Montgomery: NIU=2
Year 5 for Montgomery, and all signs pointed to them beginning to make noise this year. Haven't made a whole lot of it, but has good freshman that will only help his cause. That said, heat turns up in the next year as he will be asked to win more next year, especially with current state of the MAC West.
John Cooper: Miami=10
From sources at Miami, "He's coaching like he's a lame duck." Although he had a good find with his freshman class, didn't do enough in his time of recruiting in-state. Never saw him once at Flying to the Hoop despite the event being within 30 miles of him. Anywho, unless he goes on a tear and wins the MAC, consider this one an open job, perhaps John Groce will take this??
PREDICTION: FIRED
Rob Senderoff: Kent State
Steve Hawkins: WMU
For being one of the MAC's better programs, losing Tava to Jim "Carpetbagger" Christian has hurt this program royally. Consider this a rebuilding year for Western Michigan, Hawkins will need to find roots tonight. Will have more information on this one after tonight's game and talking with my contacts in Kalamazoo.
PREDICTION=LOSES BIG THIS YEAR, REGAINS SWAGGER WITHIN TWO YEARS
Tod Kowalczyk: Toledo=2
A coach who seems to have Toledo stuck in neutral again after almost making the NCAAs a couple years ago. His NW Ohio experiment in recruiting did not take off as well as he hoped, so he has raided the east side of Ohio. Based off kids he's bringing in, nothing there impressed me all that much in terms of their talent level. Based off that, would say he's not as good as a talent evaluator and in turn will bite him in two years. Heat will turn up in next year to get there, but will realistically last two more seasons.
Keno Davis: CMU
Rob Murphy: Eastern Michigan
