Anyone have any insight as to why TWC/Spectrum basketball games blacked out on Directv & WatchEspn app? I live in Suburban Columbus and no dice at home on Roku or phone or DirecTV. Same for a buddy of mine.

Well, TWC paid good money to purchase the broadcast rights from ESPN. So if you live in an area where TWC is available, they are fully within their rights to prevent you from watching on any other platform.

Frankly, if they pushed for it hard enough, they could probably command exclusive rights and black out everywhere.

I switched to Uverse and am paying the price, but it's just business.

I'm even a TW internet customer and the games are blacked out because I don't have their lousy cable service. I understand their wanting to protect their investment, but that's taking it a bit far.

I'm doing my best to get to the bottom of this. I was on the phone with Directv for nearly 45 mins Saturday trying to get an explanation.

It's listed on channel guide on ch. 789....but it's blacked out.

It's blacked out on the app for both my phone and my tablet.

But for some ridiculous reason, it appears on my laptop.

All are running off the same internet service from my home. So bizarre.

I have a friend who was able to watch via the app in a Cbus suburb (Clintonville for those familiar)....but when he returned home to Dublin (literally 10 mins away) it was blacked out again.

For some inexplicable reason, it seems zip code 43016 is blacked out. Directv guy was befuddled as well, because he was showing no call for any blackouts for this game.

I'm going to speak with Spectrum Sports/TWC folks this week and express my concern.

It would be one thing if they were blacked out all over Cbus....but it's obvious they are not. It must be some glitch.

What bothers me the most is when i reached out to the MAC...they didn't seem to care or have any concern this was happening. They just said there's nothing they can do.

What a low-rent garbage league. How can you not care that one of your flagship schools is having their games blacked out in the largest alumni based city. The MAC should want their product to be available for viewing in as many places possible. There's no reason they should be blacked out.

And from my understanding in previous discussions with TWC/Spectrum....the NO BLACKOUTS on ESPN3 was a HUGE part of the negotiations. They weren't blacked out last year....they weren't blacked out during football....and during this basketball season I've been able to watch any other MAC game (women's or men's) and every Horizon League game they do (whether it's in Ohio or not), but I can't watch Ohio basketball.

it's just absurd that this happens. Incredibly frustrating that we are nearly to February and this hasn't been fixed. Just laziness and apathetic to not fix this.

Thanks for looking into this, FYI I live in Athens (45701) and it was blacked out on my laptop (internet service is from Frontier).

I can't get TWC where I am (podunk local company and covers western Stark and Wayne counties, other options are Uverse and satellite) and they still black the damn things out for me previously on Uverse, and now Directv.

I loathe this stupid contract with TWCSN. Even when you can get their broadcasts, they suck.

I talked to Spectrum folks this week. They were operating under the understanding that NO games should be blacked on ESPN3 app...no matter how you were logging in (either thru Spectrum or Directv or whoever)

I told them about the coverage map being off...that parts of Cbus got the games...some didn't...and Athens didn't.

They said they would look into it....

But here's the bad news....no more Ohio games this year are slated to be on Spectrum until MAC Q'finals (god-willing Ohio makes it)

So I'm not sure if we'll be able to see if they've fixed this issue.

Not sure what else can be done.

It's frustrating.
