Looks like Friday's game just got a hell of a lot more difficult. And god help us if Zippy wins the MAC Tournament....they will lose by 37 points in the 1st round of the NCAA Tourney.

Cheatham got into foul trouble and played only 21 minutes before fouling out with 11 pts. Not the way he wanted Senior Night to go. Plus Fiami was 8-17 from three, with Wright hitting 5 of 8 off the bench. Could be just an anomaly. Regardless, a first-round bye just got tougher.

By losing three of the last four, Akron has helped solidify the MAC as a one-bid NCAA tourney conference. Two weeks ago, Akron's RPI was upper 30s, which gave them some wiggle room if they had won out until the MACCG. They would at least have been a bubble team. Now it's mid 60s. Fuhgetaboutit.

At this point the MAC should scrap the tournament this year and draw a team out of a hat.

I've felt since early January that as Cheatham goes, so go the Zips. He's the most important player on their team in my opinion.

Driving home last night, heard this game on local radio. Cheatham picked up his 5th foul by way of a technical that spurred Miami's comeback.

In his last 9 games, it has mostly been a struggle for him and the Zips are 5-4 during that stretch.

Last 9 games for Cheatham:

10.3 PPG, 14-36 (39%) on twos and and 18-60 (30%) on threes.

Is it my imagination or have there been a ton of technicals this year including us?

I sent Ken Pomeroy an email a couple of weeks ago asking if Ohio leads the nation in technical fouls drawn. He said that technical foul data is not very reliable in his dataset so he couldn't say.

Although, our opponents have been on a dry spell.

It seems that way to me too, so either we are suffering from the same hallucination, or it's true.

28 technicals seems like a ton to me and way more than I can remember in my 38 years of going to OU games. Any officials out there who can shed light on this?

Usually Akron saves these kind of performances for the NCAA tournament, looks like they're ahead of schedule this year. Wouldn't it be nice if they got knocked out before we had to play them in Cleveland?

As noted above, not sure how accurate this info is, but this shows EMU's James Thompson IV as leading the nation in technical fouls with eight:

I really couldn't find any other college basketball technical foul statistics.

Won't be the first time.

When Kwan Dog and Big Dog are struggling, 'Kron Dog struggles.

Doesn't that speak to MAC officials' abilities?

Could also be empty gyms that allow refs to hear everything. For giggles, I looked at Dayton's techincal fouls.
