I couldn't watch and only got home in time to listen to the last minute on the radio. Can anyone describe the officiating for me? 7 free throws for us and 27 for Can't? Was this just the way the game went or were we getting hosed? It's not like they had a big lead and we were fouling, right?
I watched it and last eight minutes were horrible! We couldn't buy a bucket or get a call to go our way! It started when Jaaron got called for tossing his face in front of Edwin's elbow! I usually don't let the officiating bother me, but tonight it all went Kent's way! Including the 10 second violation on Jaaron. He wasn't being pressured and crossed midcourt right at 10 seconds. I can't remember that being called in a non press situation.

Not usually called, because people usually don't take 10 to walk the ball up the floor.

Exactly. Microcosm of the way this team sometimes approaches the game. Lackadaisical. There was a play where KK got stripped in the corner and he just stood there complaining rather than get back and at least attempt to play defense. I know 13 pts isn't a massive lead...but c'mon. This team has blown so many double digit second half leads. This was a big game and to let it happen again with the mental breakdowns like whining to officials, 10 sec violations, failed box outs...

The effort is certainly there, but they just don't do the little things that end up costing you games. Have to find a way to clean that up.

UB could be a wakeup call Tuesday night. This could very well be a team that finishes 11-7 in MAC and backs into the four seed rather than a team that steamrolled into the 2 seed

I agree with some of the complaints and laments here, and there was certainly some sketchy officiating, but I thought what lost the lead and the game was something I've not seen all year: Simmons played hero ball for spurts all night and for the entire last 10 minutes of the game. It's not like we had a hot hand he was missing, but he was a black hole. Long, defended threes. Long, contested twos. Repeated failed attempts to go one on four in the paint. He had a chip on his shoulder (good) and he was going to shake it off by being the hero (bad!).

Kent needed this game a lot more than we did, but we could have and should have stolen it. Overall, not one to lose much sleep over unless it starts a pattern of behavior.

On the plus side, great representation from our fans as usual, and awesome to see Mike Laster's game continuing to look fantastic.

I agree. Saul needs to intervene when Simmons tries to do it all. Took us out of our rhythm and was the difference in the game. Never allowed Dartis to get into the flow.

I'm guessing based on this blackout map, you have to have one of those cable channels to watch in Central ohio.

http://www.espn.com/espncollegeextra/blackout?id=3016483
I'm not up on how all of this works but why would you have a blackout in the markets that would be most interested in watching this game?
I think the infinite suckiness of Time Warner forces that decision. They blacked out the Cleveland and Columbus markets, trying to protect their territory, which is stupid. It's not like that decision forced a single person to drive to Kent or switch to their cable. The Youngstown market still got it, and there's probably more Kent fans in western Mahoning and Trumbull counties (20 minute drive to the MAC Center probably) than fans of either in most of the blacked out area once you get away from the schools themselves. Hell, Athens technically isn't even in the Columbus market right now, are they? I know that changes about every 5 years anymore.
In Gallia county our internet location shows up as Pickerington so we are blacked out even though Time Warner/Spectra doesn't even serve the area. My only option is to turn the Wi-fi off on my phone and eat up my phone data. Its frustrating but not as frustrating as consistently blowing sizable leads to lose games.

Kents game is a concern. We don't match up well with their size and offensive rebounding. However looks like if we win out then Akron Kent and buffalo will most likely all be in the top half of the bracket and we will be in lower half as 2 seed.

In the last 8 minutes plus there were 15 judgement whistles (foul calls, turnovers like travels, etc.). All 15 went against the Bobcats. Obviously all 15 weren't tough judgments but a good number were and just as important were the non-calls.

Wow!

Now, how many were made by the same official? Called and non-calls!

KK was whistled for an offensive foul of pushing off. Coach must know that KK has a short fuse and didn't want him T'd. When he came to the bench KK showed the antics of a guy who had a very bad call go against him. What did the TV show? Was it a bad call or was KK trying to get away with one?

Yeah.. ESPN3 is blacked out at my place. I have Nelsonville TV Cable and it's not on any of the other channels.. That sucks.
There are probably a few ways around this. A semi-low tech one is to sign up for a VPN service. At a high level, you sign up for this service, it'll cost you roughly 20 a year or 40 for 'lifetime', but look around and you'll find something that is fairly reasonable.

What happens when you fire up your VPN on your computer, is you can pick a location to fake-out your IP address, or route your traffic through. So here, basically you pick a VPN location in Chicago or somewhere that is not in the blackout range. Then fire up the espn3.com and it thinks you're in a place that isn't blacked out, not Columbus/Athens/etc.

I used Stacksocial to search for a VPN provider, and ended up with something called 'VPN Unlimited'. Seems OK so far, and I only use it when they black out the Bobcat games. But there are a bunch for sale on that site, and plenty elsewhere I'm sure.

I think if you use this referral link you should get $10 off your purchase. (disclaimer it gives me some sort of credit too if you use it)

Hope this helps a few of you out.

One of the refs was former Dayton Flyer (Zanesville HS) point guard Edwin Young.

Left his mark on that game for sure.

VPN is essential for many reasons. YOu can read and decide http://lifehacker.com/5940565/why-you-should-start-using-...

I use the PIA product described http://lifehacker.com/5935863/five-best-vpn-service-provi... but the one Ben put up is interesting as I read it.,,,and he is much smarter about this stuff than I.THis page is part of Ben's stuff that makes me think I need to re evaluate the one I use....the ones here look like a better option https://stacksocial.com/sales/lifetime-of-purevpn . I just did PIA because it seemed easy to set up ...and not because it shares the same initials.

For all those who have been constantly beat up by the cable nad tv cos. I just change servers to a different part of the country...and sometimes a different country if I am looking for some basketball overseas

We lost by three points on the road in a game where we went 28-70 from the field and 34% of the shots came from one guy. That won't happen again. File it away, win both games next week and we're golden. Sunrise, sunset.

The refs went long stretches without calling a foul on Kent. There were no fouls on Kent between 10:37 and 0:30 in the first half, and the last foul on Kent in the 2nd half came with 8:13 left. Considering how physical the game was, that's a bit suspect.

The conspiracy theorist in me says MAC really wanted to ensure that Kent at least got a home game and maybe a bye to ensure they would make it to Cleveland. no doubt Kent forced the action and drew more fouls but they sure as hell weren't as clean defensively as the foul disparity would indicate.

We need to do more of that. Hard to do from outside the arc....or all running back immediately after 3 launches. Buffalo, 'kron, Can't - well they crash the boards both ends.....
