Just having some fun. But, there's some truth in that sarcasm. We've seen way worse than tripping.

I'd love to know who made the decision to suspend. I'd bet a dollar to a donut that the decision came above Coach K
100 right GoCat - It came from him, because he underestimated the response, so he had to take action to protect his reputation. The "Righteous Rat" thought that taking his little boy to the other team's coach and player like a father taking a misbehaving son to the neighbor's stoop would be enough because, as he said last night, "I handle things the way I handle them," he said. "I think I've handled this correctly, and moving forward, I will continue to handle it correctly. I don't need to satisfy what other people think I should do. I'm a teacher and a coach, bah, blah, blah," How dare you question me - you should genuflect in front of me.

But folks did question his handling of it, and should have. I do not like and do not agree with Stephen A Smith much, but he is 100% correct on this front: if this was Calipari or pretty much any other coach, we would be questioning HIS accountability, not just the players,
That is exactly why I think it was above, because his comments were essentially this is over, move on. Then comes the suspension. From experience, if this came from above, we will never know.

I'm sure he'll be back for the conf season but the ACC front office is taking note. He'll have a giant-sized bullseye on his back.

Kudos to coach k and duke - a whopping full-game suspension for Allen. His behavior, in the eyes of coach k, rose above a half-game suspension.

Yeah, but he's not captain anymore, which I'm sure means a whole helluva lot to him.

Can I nominate the 1972 Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball team? If that was done today half of those guys would be in jail.

Also love the way he threw his head back like he got hammered. He IS going to get pummeled at the next level.

Life under a microscope. That is nearly the identical play that happened in our game a couple of weeks ago involving Jaaron. And every player throws their head back in that situation when their progress is impeded by an arm-bar. Wonder why the other 50 times this play happened this college basketball season we didn't see it on ESPN.com?

Way too much acting going on today with the head throwback and all for every bit of minor contact even 30 feet from the hoop. The over the back three second crowd calls for a foul overtime their player throws back his head. The good refs see it for what it is.

You'll have to forgive me,I don't know all of the college basketball rules.

I've seen refs. do a video review to reset the game clock.
I believe they can also go to a video review to see who last touched a ball before it goes out of bounds.

Does anyone know if they can review a foul call ?

Also, does anyone know if they've ever talked about a coach's challenge in college basketball ?

My first reaction when I saw the title of this thread. 1990's. Devin Davis, Miami.

They can't review a foul other than to check to see if it was a flagrant foul I believe.

The good refs also call a foul when a player's progress is impeded by a player defending with his arms. The gesticulating head is needed for those refs that don't make that call.

Because the offensive player more often than not didn't the bring his elbow up into the defenders noggin. Kid is an excellent shooter. Lousy defender. And first class jerk on and off the court. At least so says the Duke faithful in these parts.

You mean except as already noted in the almost identical play involving Jaaron Simmons. Similar plays happen every single day in college basketball. As you've noted he's an easy guy to hate so everything he does is blown out of proportion. There's an almost identical jerk on Ball State but you never hear a word about him.

As I noted more often than not the offensive player doesn't throw the arm into the grill. Yes it happened that way to Simmons and to others but let's not position it as common.

He is under a microscope for two reasons. 1. the habitual tripping episodes that ARE uncommon (and more dangerous than most appreciate) set himsellf under the microscope and 2. The petulant reaction that he gave not only during those actions but other times as well.

The surprising thing in these parts is the general reaction of the Duke faithful. They have traditionally had the back of the player. Not him. Was told that the other players don't want to have his back either. The times they have come to his defense, Daddy Rat is always at their side. Sort of "you need to do this" posturing. While he could use another year on campus the program appears to want him to move on. That says a lot. We'll see what happens.

"Daddy Rat". Love it. Don't think I've ever heard it before, but I love it.

This thread reminds me of an OHIO player years ago. While I would stop short of calling him a dirty player, though some might use that term. He was certainly a hothead. I always have trouble remembering his name correctly. Denny Rauch, or Rouse, or something like that. He was a red head, had relatively long hair, and was a complete embarrassment when he got into a game. I remember on more than one occasion standing up at games and yelling at him to quit acting like a clown. I also remember yelling at our coach to take him out of the game. I've never been more embarrassed about an OHIO. In fact, he's the only OHIO player that remember wishing he had never become a Bobcat.
