Zips/Cardinals tipping off on CBS  Sports Network.

Cheatham hot early, not a good sign. Zips up 7-0 at 18:45 mark.

You sure you're not watching Spectrum Sports (formerly Time Warner)? That game was played earlier today. CBS Sports Network didn't even broadcast that game.

Are you guys rooting for the Zips for the best TV matchup/resume builder or Ball St. for a somewhat better chance to win?

I think unless Princeton goes down in the Ivy and Marshall knocks off MTSU tomorrow I think we get a #14 regardless of how we look this week. Akron might have a chance at a #13. It is kind of sad really. The MAC has had in the past conference RPI rankings that say at-large bid possibilities for most leagues. Parity has kept that from happening. It seemed that a lot of prognosticators and odds-makers thought in the preseason that this was the year Ohio and Akron might both standout and be well-established within the top 50 teams. That certainly didn't pan out. Given that it feels a bit frustrating to think a #1 vs. #2 match up might produce a #14 seed in the NCAA. Heck, I wouldn't be absolutely stunned if we got a #15 and I think that a #15 starts becoming more within the realm of possibility if BSU or KSU were to slip in there. The MAC slipped some this year without question and parity is just as high as ever. It means that the top teams don't have great computer numbers.

Ball St. would get to within 3-4 points and then commit mind-numbingly bad turnover. Turnovers were essentially Akron's offense in the last 10 minutes.

Dambrot says in postgame tv interview he will tell his team "be normal" as advice to win tomorrow.

Good lord. Who says that? What a moron.

Couple of interesting facts:

1) Last OU coach to be MAC coach of the year - Larry Hunter, 1994
2) Last OU player to be MAC defensive player of the year - hasn't happened
3) Akron has played on Saturday night 8 of the last 10 MAC championships
4) Three NCAA tournament wins will always be special

Good stuff. At the end of the day, I'll always take 3 NCAA wins in last decade over playing on Saturday night 8 of the last 10 MAC Championships. However, I will say...batting 80% in participating in the last 10 MAC Championships is mighty impressive. But they don't have a coach who knows how to win 4 days later in NCAA Tourney.

Yes, in that way he's a lot like Jim Christian, who could win the MAC but was not good in the post season. The same with Ray Meyer at DaPaul back in the day. Some coaches have a special "tournament gear" and others don't.

Not ever been much of one to use COY, POY as benchmarks Everyone here can make the case that there have been performances by players on both defensive and offensive sides as well as overall that have been slighted. everyone can read the list of winners and have some arguments along the way. Same with COY. Saul has done a masterful job this year but was not even in consideration for COY as the folks that do make that determination were locked onto a different criteria in their minds and Saul's accomplishment with his depleted roster will be lost forever as someone cites "Keith was COY" to denigrate what was done with the roster and young talent this year. ..... Those honors are not as well researched and voting as informed as they think they are and do not carry much weight IMHO. Many is the argument that is ended with "POY" or "COY" as if that honor actually means something in every case.

Playing Saturday night is an admirable record I long for Ohio to get to....in a 1 big league that you wish to stand heads above everyone else....it is not a goal, it should be the expectation. Ball State domination of Vball in the 90s and Ohio Vball in the 2000s are examples of the standard that should be the floor (even if the ceiling is the roof) of what we should be achieving.

Agreed 100% Tom. My points were purposeful but we all know how hard that is on a message board. Lots of posters continue to bash Larry and I'm not making a case for him but he was the last coach to get coach of the year. As for defensive players of the year, many of us old timers remember one Eddie Hicks who shut down Ron Harper and Dan Palambizio. He was the label on their jock and other than Patrick Flomo, OU's last great defender. It looks like we agree on Akron's success and no one enjoyed the 3 NCAA victories more than guys like us.

Totally agree. Goes back to the critical 5 year window completely missed to take this program to another level. We had so much momentum following the Sweet 16 year and we should have been to at least 2 NCAA Tourneys in last 5 years. Instead....just one trip to the MAC Finals.
