EMU looking good so far. They played Akron tight last year in the noon game also.

James Thompson with a big first half - already in a double-double.

Akron up 30-27 at half. EMU was leading most of the half until they had about a 5 minute lull towards the end where Akron heated up.

EMU with their customary lack of discipline. Two of the usual suspects with technicals already.

Odds on Murphy being retained? I know we wouldn't be happy with their lack of discipline unless the winning was significant.

The consistent lack of judgment is amazing. Lets keep in mind although he is a sophomore, he is 22 and one of the oldest players on the court. And he is a psychology major. Yet his mind continually gets in the way.

Give EMU credit, they have held their own and clawed back with JT4 sitting with 4 fouls. Not over yet.

Hard to say. The guy is consistently competitive in a tough league with almost no fan support. Hard to justify canning him, especially when it's hard to say the next coach would do better.

I thought it'd be over when he picked up his fifth, but Zippy is already pulling away.

To top it all off, EMU's leading scorer Mangum is suspended for the game.

Murphy has done everything possible to put a viable team on the floor with no support whatsoever. When it comes to firing coaches at EMU, it will come down to how long til their buyout if they were going to make a move.

Antino Jackson looked like he shoved the ref on the way back to the bench. Should be reviewed.

I disagree. You wouldn't accept his record if you were a fan of EMU. After you remove his 18 wins against non-D1 opponents his overall record is 89-97. Plus his teams, while physically talented, show a complete lack of basketball IQ. I watched their game against Northern on Monday and with 0:06 left James Thompson went to the line to shoot free throws with them up 2. He proceeded to sink the first one. As soon as the ball went through the hoop Thompson immediately stares down the NIU player nearest him and starts jawing at him. All I could think was how funny and appropriate it would be for him to get T'd up right there. This happened right in front of Murphy and he didn't say a word to him.

Edit: I was wrong. It's 19 wins for an overall D1 record of 88-97.

You make a good case. They certainly *could* do better, but would they do better? They pay him less than $250k after bonuses. I guess we'll find out what they want to do, because I think his contract is up as of less than an hour ago.

RANT ON:

It's pretty pathetic that we're having to switch between three different broadcast networks as this tournament moves along (BCSN/ESPN3, CBS Sports Net, ESPN2). The MAC never ceases to amaze me with their broadcasting negotiations.

RANT OFF.

I ripped the league's POY voting panel for picking Big Dog. Looks like he showed up HUGE today. 24 and 10. Props to the big man.

I think we tend to look at other programs with a less critical view than we do our own. I think the biggest problem with him is the trajectory of the team. This is his 6th season. These are his players and they are a hot mess. If Saul put this team on the court in year 6 I would be leading the charge to get him canned.

I hear you. But, on the other hand, it is a one-bid conference with zero national recognition and nobody even sniffing the top 25. Kind of a miracle we get to watch the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals on TV or online. The final still gets a prime spot on the espn networks as well. Could be a lot worse.
