Love what JS has brought to our team past two years but would not be surprised if WMU's Wilder makes first team over JS. Can't go wrong with either one (if only one point guard on first team).

I think there is a bit of bias here, especially in regards to Simmons. To think he deserves POY is a big big stretch. Keep in mind most of these voters rely heavily on stats and standings. Simmons struggled quite a bit early on and never found the consistency he had last year. All of his numbers are down but especially his shooting percentage (all types). His assist are still far and away tops but are nearly 1.5 off of last year while his turnovers are up. And he only made 2nd team last year despite a much better year statistically. I think he ends up on the 2nd team again.

I also think that even though we all believe Jason Carter will have the better career and is the more dangerous player...Michael Weathers is the heavy favorite to win the freshman of the year. 7th in scoring, 4th in assists, 4th in steals, and even 1st in blocked shots somehow. Yes, Carter filled up the stat sheet during conference play when he became a regular, but these voters are too stupid to use logic and reasoning. And although I'd like to see Carter, I'm not sure I can get upset about Weathers winning it.

I'm not sure Dartis is able to crack the 3rd team, statistically he is a great 3 point shooting but not much else (again, I'm speaking strictly statistically).

I do think Saul has a good shot at coach of the year, with it being just his 3rd season and recovering from the Campbell injury. The coach often goes to most improved teams or those who overcame some type of adversity, rather than just the coach of the best team. Had Akron closed things out a bit smoother and finished 16-2 or something they would have went Dambrot but I think they'll be looking to give it to someone else, and Saul will be the best "other" candidate.

I'm not sure the voters would notice how inconsistent he was compared to last year though. His struggles are something you only really would notice if you are watching every game IMO. His overall numbers (19.6 ppg, 6.2 apg) since Tony went down look pretty darn good and he will get credit for righting our ship and leading us to the #2 seed. That being said it wouldn't shock me to see him on the 2nd team.

I see 8 players who realistically could be first teamers without too much complaint.

I think Isaiah Johnson gets POTY but I don't think he deserves it. He's a one trick pony on offense. A month ago I thought it would be Keene but they have lost 7 straight since they played us and he's only hit his scoring average twice in those ten games. I'm coming around to the Blake Hamilton camp after watching the way he has played in the 2nd half of the season.

It wouldn't shock me to see the 1st team be:

As long as Johnson isn't given POY, I'm good with a lot of the other arguments on here for 1st/2nd team. Isaiah isn't even the best, and most important player on his own team.

If I were giving the award, I'd give it to Blake Hamilton. He's the best multi-dimensional player in the MAC, who's averaging nearly 18ppg, 5apg, and 6 boards. And he can defend 3-4 positions on the court.

3-4 weeks ago, I though it was Marcus Keene, hands down. But they've lost a ton of games lately, which hurts his case.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think non-conferences stats apply. If thats true, please see MAC only stats and may shed some light on things. I do believe Jason Carter makes a strong case for Freshman of the year, 26th in points per game, 7th in rebounding, 15th in field goal percentage. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Weathers wins in though. Please note when looking at stats, Micheal Weathers brother Marcus shows up as well ( field goal %, rebounds).

Andrew, thanks for the clarification. The blocked shots surprised me also. I have only watched him play twice and he does have quick hands and could see him getting some blocks, especially 3 point attempts. If they look at the whole season to determine Freshman of the year, then Micheal Weathers is the clear choice.
