Love the guy. After the Miami game he personally walked over to my daughters and asked them if they were the "lava cake" girls. They had drawn pictures for him per his request on the radio earlier this season when he called the dogs off at 68 points. Any child that drew him a picture would be rewarded with a lava cake voucher. This was almost two months ago..Coach Phillips has been in touch with us trying to find a way to get the vouchers to our girls, but nothing had ever worked out so after the game he took them to his office and gave them their gift certificate to Dominos.. THESE are the things that he does that doesn't get a lot of attention. He cares for our community and is now our girls' favorite coach ever! Thanks, Coach!

Not to get too political, but i kinda lump those who dont like Saul with those who do like the Donald.

They baffle me.

As a passionate 'Cat fan, I very much appreciate the fact that you bothered to share this story.
Coach Phillips is a coach that we should appreciate and treasure. You, sir, just gave us one more reason to do so. Thank you.

I'm not sure who doesn't like Saul the person. Sure, you'll have people who complain about some of his coaching moves.....that's natural, but I don't think anyone can complain about how he represents the University in and outside of Athens. I would like to think that 99.9 % of us can agree on that. We were lucky to get him when we did.

Wonderful Story! Based on radio interviews, press conferences, recruiting, team performance, I think he is a great fit for our program and hope he stays for a long time.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.

I had occasion about a year ago to talk with a former OHIO basketball player. Though I won't reveal his name, I will say he was a starter and a fan favorite back in his day. He told me that he was very impressed with Saul. He called him "a player's coach." Sounds like he's a "fan's coach" too.

He is a neck of a coach and our goodwill assets are through the roof. I heard that he works as a volunteer firefighter in the off season. He climbed the highest tree in Ohio to save a little girls cat. He will be a cat forever. As far as our president, isn't he lovely? He is the best president that we have ever had just like Saul is the best coach and humanitarian. He will be the best goodwill coach ever, Bigly.

I agree that he is a good fit for Ohio. A lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes we aren't aware of.

He's also a proven winner and program builder. Look at what he did at ND State. Two trips to NCAA and a win over Oklahoma. He demonstrated the ability to recruit and develop talent. At least one player invited to Ports mouth Invitational.

None of us will agree with every single move a coach makes, including Saul. But trust the long term process. He knows what he's doing.

Saul was very highly sought after when we got him. I am sure that he loves the school, the community and most of all the players. I think that he will find that he can get better talent at Ohio than he was able to get at North Dakota State. I think that he has some pieces, he may need one or two more and some glue. Taylor and Block can be the glue, they don't ask for much and seem to be willing to do some dirty work. I think we need a wing that can penetrate and I think that Saul has to develop his players, Dartis is a great shooter, he needs to add other facets to his game. Block does everything well, he needs to start doing some things great. Taylor can become a great shot blocker and rebounder. He should alter hundreds of shots per year. Maybe Dozier can be Flomoesque, I wish he could go somewhere and play for a year, experience is the best teacher. Jaaron over penetrates sometimes, but he is the best point guard in the MAC. He could still improve his shot selection. Let's see what they can do next year.

He has already "found out" that he can get a higher level of talent at Ohio than ND St. I meant the skills involved in building a program are transferable from one midmajor to another.

Trust the long term process. I agree. It is tough to do this day and age. But I'm in.

My handle is similar to Van Exel's, I shake the medi's and I can finish with my right or left hand. I attribute some of my physical abilities to staying car wash free.
