Toledo Blade writer calls Convo "kind of dumpy," and claims no investment in upgrades since 1968. He also criticized the maze of hallways "that lead nowhere." One hallway...it's a circle.

Same writer I might add who periodically runs an anonymous dialog among 5-6 MAC ADs. I say it's bogus. First, all the comments are written in the same "voice." Second, there's absolutely no payoff for ADs to anonymously criticize their peers and contradict their bosses. Jason Blair journalism. I challenge the Blade sports editor to check his notes/emails. It's made up.

Why no call in capability, Marty?

He isn’t wrong on the upgrades. Took 45 years to replace the seats. And that was only because the new lights degraded the plastic backs and folks were falling through the backs

Marty, I listened to most of your show on WATH this afternoon. I thought it was very well done. Even your interview with that old dogfaced rice paddy grunt sounded pretty good. But, you should have asked him that toughest of all questions: Why had he decided to go to Miami before he was drafted. Gratefully, the Army beat some sense into him, and he came to OHIO after his stint in the infantry.

And, as always, my message for dogface is: Go Navy! Beat Army!

Video boards and new sound system don't count as upgrades, I guess.

One thing I'm curious about is what is the status of the historical photographs that used to line the walkway? I thought they were going to be restored and re-displayed somewhere?

I wouldn’t say they lined the concourse, there was 3 maybe 4 phots. The 60 and 68 football team were two of them.

As for the scoreboards, the originals were replaced because they no longer made parts. I will give you the overhead scoreboard, and replacement of original bleachers. The floor did not need replaced and we got an inferior product that took a lot of the bounce in that floor. The original floor had a 6” tongue and groove diagonal sub floor laid over the joist with wooden leave springs underneath, topped off with the Floor laying in a north-south direction. New floor is laid over 1 1/14 sheets of plywood, eliminating the bounce of the springs and extra tongue and groove.

The old lady could definitely need a few ten million dollar investments.

I haven't been back in a while, but the last time I was there I thought it could definitely use some sprucing up. At least a few buckets of paint in the concourses and bathrooms. I'm sure this would be a major investment and you'd have to find space elsewhere for those students, but I wonder what they could do with the arena if they got rid of the dorms and repurposed/renovated those.

I believe that it might be legally possible now that the debt on the Convocation Center has been paid off. Initially, the university put in those dorm rooms to attract some federal dollars to help partially fund the construction of the building. Though, even at this late date, they might have to ask the feds for permission.
